Newbie interested in competitive play

I'm interested in getting involved in competitive play. Relatively new (<200 games), my Elo is about 1350, and I'm probably willing to bribe my way onto a team
If it makes any difference, I was about 1900 Elo in chess OTB at one time, so I am marginally trainable.
Any advice or takers?

Hi there and welcome !
Most tourneys are played on a 2 player format.
My advice, if you want to enter tourneys, is to play as many 2ers as possible.
USA map is the most popular, by far. But you have competitive tourneys on other maps also coming up in a couple months.
It's gonna a while before reaching a decent tournament level.
To be "ok", it's better to be regularly above 1500+ ELO to have fun in individual tourneys.
Regular 1600+ is a minimum to have a good chance to perform well in individual tourneys.
We also have team tourneys, one is under way, next is Sept, where your ELO is a bit less important. But still, 98% players will be 1500+.
I have no cluess about chess ELO, but we have a few chess players here who should be able to enlighten you.
Again, play as many games as possible. And better if 2er !
Do not hesitate to ask questions !

Thanks for the rapid reply, BHB Sys...
...umm, OK, I see the 4-5 game as being VERY different than the 2-3 game in US TTR, but I take your point.
So, the other maps are: Europe and US 1910 or all of them? Or is the US map variants all considered to be the same map? I spent a bit ot time just sorting out the US original map.
Also, are the multi-player game variants not that popular, or seen as vulnerable to folks ganging up on the better players, or...?
BTW, I don't mind getting beat up by better players, that's how you learn the ropes...by being on the ropes.
Thanks again!

BHB Sys,
Thanks again for the pointers, I'm now working on the 2 player games and have gotten into a few games with 1500+ players. They kicked me around pretty well, but as you mentioned, I've learned a few tricks from the experience.
Bests,
Wreck
