Looking forward to play Smile
is there some kind of documentation about how to play a online tournament?
I've done some reading in the eastern front tournament, but still have some questions left.

- Do medals count as points for the ranking?
- Do always we have to wait untill a commander chooses a scenario before we know (and can practice) a scenario?

I'n new, sorry Embarassed

Well, you can only have one user generated scenario up at a time, so only the one currently being played is visible

Antoi,

Don't be sorry, be dutch!
We score one point for a victory and the endscore of the games is counted for fun and a bit of rivalry on the side.

But Looney's tournaments are mainly to play complicated scenarios against motivated and experienced players.

As van Voort, commander of the nefarious enemy, stated Looney can only post one scenario at a time, but you can check out his scenarios on the scenario pages. (I do not have a lot of experience going there but usually somebody posts a link to there, so somebody?)

You can check his scenarios in the database, but don't assume that all of the tournament scenarios will be there.

At least half of the ones used in the Eastern tournament weren't there when I looked at the start of that tournament.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry about the delay in posting our first scenario. Work got in the way. Anyway, I have posted 2 scenarios on the SFTF page as potential 1st round battles. We are going to start in 1939 with the Soviets blunting Japan's attempt to take Manchuria. This was a huge Soviet victory over the Japanese as Russian armor was the decisive factor. Hitler should have taken this victory into account before his 1941 assault as to the power of the Soviet Army, even in 1939. Both of these scenarios favor the Soviets due to their armor advantage. Gheintze will determine which of these 2 we will play. Also, both he and vanVoort will decide if any reserve units will be used. Then we will commence the battles.

See you on the battlefield!

Eric

By the way, I sometimes make my scenarios private even after we play them. If there are any you would like to see again, let me know, and I will repost.

Opinions gentlemen?

Unlike the Russian camapign there is no incentive to win early and get momentum for reinforcements

Therefore the only reason to use them early would be to try to get a commanding lead and momentum in the early rounds.

Given that the force density for both sides is quite high, I am not sure adding another unit will matter much here

Hi Van Vort,

I agree there's no real interest to add another unit for this round. I would say, after a quick look, than I woulfd prefer play Battle of Khalkhin-Gol, Soviet counterattack - 20 Août 1939

I'm adding the first result here ... will a Results thread be made soon ? Smile

The Axis kick off with a WIN at Khalkin Gol!

Jaykay2010 v Antoi 8-7

This was a close game ... I took an early lead by sustaining pressure up the Axis right flank ... going ahead 3-0. Antoi fought back, countering my Armor Assault to tie 3-3, and at the half way stage it was 4-4, as Antoi began to press down the Axis left flank ..

Unfortunately for Antoi, my (now) advanced Artillery which I had parked in the trees was proving to be stubborn .. the lure of the single unit artillery bringing his elite infantry forward to attack it 3 times (6 dice) without a grenade in sight ...

This slowed him down slightly, and I picked up a few more medals up my left flank, with one particular brave infantry unit.

At 6-5 i advanced my other artillery 3 spaces into the centre of the board to pick off his weakend infantry on his baseline ... however Antoi's responsive tank unit took that one out immediately, (moving in and throwing 3 grenades straightaway i recall)

A further assault up the middle for Antoi looked like he would succeed in gaining the 3 medals he required, inluding the centre objective which he secured, but failure to destroy a 2 inf unit with his advanced tank was costly, as I rounded on him with an Infantry Assault to grab the 2 medals i needed to win ... but only just !

8-7

Cheers Antoi .. a great game, and welcome to the tourney !

Jim

The Axis won again in Khalkhin Gol!

Vaillants vs Jeronimon 8 -6 http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=36 167387

The battle was way shorter the the one played by Jaykay and Antoi. Only took 14 turns.

Each opponent began with some shoots on their respective right flank; consequence: minor casualties. This was followed by lots of movements in the centre of the battlefield. The Soviets tried to eliminate the troops protecting the bridge on their right flank, but didn't achieve to do so. The Japonese troops and artillery destroyed the first elite soviet unit during those moves. All centre Axis troops made a step forward to the river.

The Soviets counterattacked with their tanks and succeeded to destroy a Japonese tank. The Japonese answer was quick: the healthy units were used to push the Soviet tank in the river. Meanwhile, in the centre of the battlefield, the Japonese crossed the river and took the hill.

The Soviets went on in their attack on their left flank. They injured the Axis troops but didn't destroy them. That was fatal. Even injured, the Japonese are dangerous! Two medals were obtained on the Soviet left flank.

The same happened in the next turn: Soviet trying to push on their left flank, and Japonese resisting. The assault of tank of the Soviets didn't change the end of the battle... The Axis won !

Very nice scenario, with a very sympathic Dutch opponent Very Happy I did enjoy my first steps in the tournament!

It was WAR!

Not a lot of finesse but lots of Wild West stuff. The scenario lends itself well for an all out slugfest.
I am to blame for the rushed battle, I feel. I thought I had the cards to reach the exit and went for it, big time. Just one more dice here or a better position there would have maybe given me a little more.

But both the match and the rematch were very enjoyable. Thanks to Vallaints who is in my Division in the league also. So we will meet again soon. Go Shaw! Smile

Japanese victory Smile !

I had very good cards, and Geoff had no dice... And that almost said it all.

It mostly played on the japanese left, but Geoff's attack stopped abrutly when he wasn't able to finish a single infantery advanced in the forest, which gave time to the japanese to regroup and launch a Banzai mode counter attack infantery assault. An assault left then finished most of his troops and gain me the 2 medals of the A hill.
He tried to pierce through my right then, but still was slowed by poor dice, and I finished the game on my first opportunity to do so.
Here's the replay : http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=36 250416

Thx for the game, and I wish you better luck on the next one Smile

Boy, a quick 3-0 lead for the AXIS!!! What is this world coming to? Looks like the ALLIES will have to pick things up a bit...digging foxholes can be fun...but digging out of a hole...not so much!!!

Some good matches so far...SAC Geoff...tough battling Droop007 and the Dice007...you had some good chances...just not the hits.

Hope to play Looney soon...perhaps in the next couple of days...jungle warfare!!

I had great cards from the start and decided to take advantage of Luca's Commissar rule handicap to act on all fronts (General Advance followed by Recon in Force). This gave me confidence and I played boldly, overall. It payed. 2 Armor Assault, 1 Counter Attack (on a TFH), 1 Direct From HQ and 1 BEL (for the 2 victory medals) helped a lot.

Dugrim (Allies) 5 medals, 21 figures vs clorofila (Axis) 8 medals, 24 figures.

Dugrim - clorofila: Overall hit rate 41% - 34% (51 - 71 rolls)

Sorry, Luca, this would be a very tough challenge for the allies. Still, (another) good scenario!

A disappointing loss.

I started out well on my right but soon the tide turned and I before I knew it the game was tied at 5 to 5. Two key events were a Japanese Ambush on my right which got 2 hits and a flag and one of my left infantry was killed off with 5 dice.

In the end game I could only choose from some weak cards (Probes) and in the end my right was in sorry shape and the key hill lost.

Nonsense! You are our LEADER, you say fight and we DO, you say where and we GO, you say when and we say NOW! You point us in the right DIRECTION and it is for us to try and decide how to best get THERE! Besides, a 95-5 record may not be 100-0, but still now bad! Laughing

Hi guys,

Yes, Boyd will be filling in for me in this tournament. I'm trying to finalize and playtest the upcoming scenarios. I'm shooting for as close to 50-50 as possible. I think some of the upcoming ones are very interesting but I want to be sure they are as even as possible(unlike this one). My sons and I are board testing them and with one of them playing tournament baseball, I want to concentrate on giving you the best scenarios I can.
