CB1 - Operation Barbarrosa - What if Event Sat, 13 July 2013 12:09
Hello,

we are playing the Barbarossa Campaign and we have run into the following situation:

- The Axis side have rolled an Armor for the What if? event, which means "Barbarossatag".

What if Event

Barbarossatag:The Axis invade the Soviet Union on the originally planned date of May 15th, 1941
All battles for the entire campaign are fought on summer terrain. The Axis player receives a free Air Sortie/Air Power token in the 4th scenario of each three branch campaigns.
This roll cancels any second phase roll of "Severe Winter" by either player, which becomes "no effect"

The last scenario for the Barbarossa Center branch is "Battle for Rostov", which is winter themed, so according to the What if event, it has to be changed to summer terrain, if played.

In this scenario there is a frozen river, which can be easily turned into a standard, impassable river. The thing is that there are several "Exit" markers on the frozen river for the Allies side.

How can we manage this to not unbalance the scenario drastically? Any workaround? Did any of you face the same situation? If so, what did you do?

Thanks in advance.

Okay , you are the one who decided to use the WHAT IF events without weighing ahead of time on the possible consequences of your action. I would just play it like it is Summer and the Russians cannot escape because the rivers are thawed out and iimpassable. If you play WHAT IF, you live with the consequences of the dice. Is this not what you asked for when you rolled the WHAT IF dice ... A different situation?

It is your game of course so you and your mate decide. I just think if you are going to leave it up to the dice to decide, then you live with the results of your decision. It could be an interesting game to play.

Thanks Steven for the inputs.

We do know the What if? event is a lottery, so we have to take the risks.

Cheers! Cool

A fair way to play the What if event is, that your opponent when you switch sides, plays the same event, so its more a balanced way to play it both ways.
