Playing Overlord-Scenarios 1:1 Sun, 15 September 2013 08:53
I want to play some Overlord, but not with using the Overlord-Rules. A friend of mine and I are avidly interested in playing for example Operation Market Garden.
Has someone tried playing Overlord with using standard rules?
My thoughts were the following:
- Treat each gameboard-half as if an own board, parting the command cards, and using one for each half.
- Treat the gameboard as normal, with two left flank, two center and two right flank, playing two cards each turn.
- Using the breakthrough cards normally with 2 left flank (and so on), but playing only one card each turn.

Are there any experiences to be shared, or any other ideas?

Is there a specific reason you don't want to play with overlord rules?
We often play overlord and if we don't have enough people to play with the chain of command rules we just keep it simple and play as two teams against eachother.

I think it take a lot of playtime if you just use the basic rules.
Besides that, you don't get the "overlord experience".

I have played overlord maps with just 2 players, and have found using the overlord rules minus the chain of command rule works best.

Does this mean that you don't talk to YOURSELF during the game?

I have played the overlord expansion with the overlord rules with only two players many times now. I live in a small town and not many people out here play war games. I like playing with the overlord rules. I have played at conventions where we had two people on one side and one on the other, and with six people. The cards from the Operation Overlord expansion help greatly with this, but I also made a chart before those came out.
I'm not sure why even two players wouldn't want to use the overlord rules with overlord style maps. The ability to use all map sections in a turn is great!

I agree and to complete the above I like the system much because you sometimes can't play a perfect card in one of the sections and have to go for initiative or watch out if you play to many times 3 cards your hand of cards dry's out.
