  Access Denied! Sun, 15 September 2013 17:14
Me and my wife are consistently getting "Access Denied" whenever we try to play SW2 online. There are no "Login Setting" in the settings menu. Only a "Login" button that comes back with: Access... Wait for it... Denied!

I see nowhere we can specify what login name or password to use. It never aked us. It simply refuses to work!

Im also unaware of any alternative account that i could merge with.

We both have a DoW account from earlier ticket to ride games. Those accounts worked fine for that.

Regards,
Mads Østerby

Hopefully it is just your access point being bad atm. I couldn't log in at work but got in just fine once at home, but I was frustrated/concerned for a bit.

"Access point"? You mean some kind of local server? You sure it wasnt the firewall at your work that is blocking the port? Thats quite common on workplaces. Unfortunately i am already at home. I havent had trouble with any other games through this connection.

Kind regards,
Mads

The error could mean that the game tries to connect to our servers without success. Please check that there is no firewall between your iPad and Days of Wonder. If you have a firewall, you must allow outgoing connection to our servers
Server address : games.smallworld-game.com
Server port : 2345.

MadsOesterby:

I noticed that your DoW account has an obsolete Game Center reference. I wonder if this would cause some automatic login attempt that would fail miserably.

I removed the reference. Could you please try it again? Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Yann

Hi Eric.

I've checked my router administration page. It only blocks anonymous requests, multicast and IDENT (all 3 from the outside only). This is standard stuff and it really shouldn't affect any normal kind of internet usage.

Hi Yann.

As I wrote on the email it unfortunately still doesn't work. Sad Killing and restarting the app didn't make any difference either.

If you guys give me a hostname and a port I can try connecting from my PC with a small C# program and see what happens.

Otherwise I guess there should be some connection logs somewhere that would (hopefully) show my connection attempts?

Kind regards,
Mads Østerby

By the way, we successfully started a ticket to ride game the other day (after we discovered that SW2 online didn't work). You'd think that if we can connect to Ticket to Ride then SW2 should work as well?

Kind regards,
Mads

The issue has been tackled. To make it short, it was caused by the non-ASCII characters in Mads' account login name. The solution was simply to change the account's login so it contains only regular latin characters.

If that same problem happens to you, you are probably using an account with non-ASCII characters (and we have not yet fixed the problem). If so, change your login here :
https://www.daysofwonder.com/myprofile

If your login only contains ASCII characters, Small World must be automatically trying to log you on using a second account associated with your Game Center account. If your Game Center account name (used to) contains non-ASCII characters, you'll stumble on the problem. We can solve it for you if you contact us (http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/digital/) and give us the exact time and timezone when the Access Denied error occurred.
