Change language SW2 iPad? Sun, 12 January 2014 23:17
When I bought and installed SW2, it came in with fully Dutch text.

My question is: what determines the language? How can I set the language to English? Or would I need to first put my entire iPad to english, and then redownload (does it give me the language my iPad is in? I hope not!).

Thanks!

You will have to set the English language for your iPad to get the English text, or to any other language for which Small World has not been localized, then you will automatically get the English text.

I understand that there can be different reasons why a Dutchman might want the English text in Small World, even if the localization is very good, but still I would like to ask you how do you find the Dutch localization?

Hi AnrgyMarine, thanks for your response. It's a shame it's not configurable. Indeed I'm Dutch, and when playing with the kids, I like the Dutch environment. But personally I always prefer the original language (also when reading books I prefer the english version over a translated one). Especially with something like SW2 which has great humor and nuances that give it an extra twist. Also when reading blogs or forums, they will refer to the English names and sometimes I need to guess what they're referring to.

To your question about the quality of the localization. It's been done quite well, but certainly not perfect. There are grammar mistakes and some rather odd sentences. But perfectly playable. My question was a "nice to have", not a "must have".

Thanks again!

Thanks for your response too, applephod!
My opinion has always been that a game localization must be perfect (or better), otherwise it is no good at all. The style, the atmosphere must be perfectly matched. Not to say of the grammar! Such trifles can kill all the fun. "Playable" is not what one expects from a Days of Wonder game, is it?

I love your high quality aspirations! The localization is very good, not perfect. But certainly good enough to not spoil anything!

Though still a shame it's not a configuration setting Smile
