For those Vassal players Thu, 23 January 2014 17:56
Hello,

Please I need some help from some of you. It has come to my attention that a new spanish player is trying to learn how to play in Vassal. His nickname seems to be "compi" and he may need some help.

If any of you bump into him online, please paste him the following text: Si quieres ayuda en castellano, contacta con Almilcar en jdevesa@msn.com

Thanks in advance.

You sure he's Spanish? I thought in Spanish, "no" means "no". But he seemed to have trouble understanding that word.

This guy got me started playing a game with him with the understanding that he'd played the basic boardgame but didn't know how to use the Vassal system. Apparently that's not the case, because he didn't know how to retreat or to stop in forests or how many dice to roll.

I can teach vassal to someone who follows instructions, but first they need to learn M'44 somewhere else, like the free trial for M'44 Online.

I can understand a language barrier, but still Westerners should know what these mean:
#, 1, 2, 3, OK, NO, go.

Good luck with him.

PS, after he contacts you, take down your email so robots don't get it to spam you.

I'm not sure whether he is a Spaniard... That's what I've been told and I'm trying to help him if that is the case. Otherwise, someone from any other country may want to step into.

Cheers

Finally finished 2-game match with him. He'd play for awhile and disconnect (and maybe not notice), so I saved and we played over several days. After the first side finished I thought the rematch would go quicker, but no. Things I taught in the first game were forgotten. It was like playing 3 kids using the same ID. I gave him the address for M'44 Online, so maybe he'll download that. (But if his connection is no good, like mine, he won't finish games there.)

Vassal is not the place to learn a new boardgame. Then you try to learn one in another language? Forget it. I have patience for people new to Vassal, and can teach the controls and etiquette (when they follow instructions). But when you say you've played M'44 before, that better be true! I won't play the compi kids again before next Fall.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience... is all I can say. I don`t know this guy and I have never met him. Actually, the first time I heard about him it was via a PM another fellow member sent me a few days ago.

Maybe he may need some help in his native tongue. Maybe the issue is the language and not his ability to recall the rules.

Thanks for your attempt anyway.

Regards

Hi John.

Good try sir and thank you for the effort. I think you went above and beyond there.

I recall an experience with a player who just seemed to be out to give someone a dificult time.

I explained how things work on Vassal while playing a game with him but to no avail. When hits were obtained on his units he did not reduce them and when I did so for him he recovered the hits back.

He stated he knew the rules. But when I tried to do an OR attack he asked me what I was doing and kept moving my tank back. He said I could not do this. I told him to check the Memoir '44 rules on OR attacks and gave him the page number for that rule and then he said he did not have a set of rules!

I spent over an hour and only got a few turns into a game and really felt I was wasting my time on him, so I gave up that ghost.
