Michele,
I live in Lebanon. So I'm in a close time zone. I don't have any experience, but I'll be cheering for Italy this summer in the World Cup. Would you let me in on your tournament...? Pleeeeeeease.... oh, per favore....? Very Happy

Thanks Iron,

I wish I could stretch dow some ground rules not alone...just waitin' to build an "italian" project team to share everything with.

Don't think it's fair to start alone pretending to be the "m44 italian dude"...i think there a lot of players here and we gotta finda way to start-up the engine!

By the way Smile I'm in favor to open the tournament to a % of foreign players Smile

Michele,
Leaders take the lead and move things forward. So great work on doing that. Bravo! And foreigners should only be allowed to participate if they support Italia in the World Cup! (Do all Italians root for Italia or do they support other teams?!)

Michele,
This just came across my news feed. This is my area: South Lebanon!

http://dailystar.com.lb/News/Lebanon-News/2014/Feb-06/246528 -italy-foreign-minister-visits-unifil-in-the-south.ashx#axzz 2sQnxVkqw

It's a sign that I should have a place in the tournament...n Idea Wink Nod

I would also suggest you write a personal note Eric a.k.a. (also known as) LooneyLlama or rasmussen81 and see if they can help you. Also, go to rasmussen81 user page. He has lots of information about setting up tournaments that might help you. Look down in "my projects"

Hi Generals!

I'm going to organize an online tournament to "start-up" the engine of my ambitious project to create an italian association/club (look to -> www.m44italy.com)

I know you are great generals and that you have been exemplary soldiers so here I am to beg for your support and experience in order to apply the best practices available!

I was thinking to start with a quick knockout challenge with these ground rules:

1. Open to all italian players (dunno if to open to a % of foreign)
2. Each round has its own scenario to be played (the first round will be pegasus bridge 'cause it's free so that everyone can start without money)
3. Each game is played for both players Axis/Allies twice and the score is Medals
4. Unity kind of lost is a second parameter to decide the winner (artillery: 3pts; armor:2pts; infantry:1pnt)
5. Step by step in rounds scenario will be harder unitl the final (i would love suggestions to pick up the right scenarios for each round of the tournament)
6. In case of connection lost...dunno how to manage this.... (HELP)
7. How about to

I would love to start by the 1st of march.

What do you think? Waiting for feedbacks

Michele,
That looks like a good start.

I don't have a lot of experience, but I think on a lost connection that couldn't be regained, that battle should be allowed to be replayed. Players would have to play on their honor and not "fake" a lost connection if they are losing... Razz

For your first one, maybe best to start small, not too many rounds...

If possible would love the honor of participating, if you choose to include non-Italians...I'll fly the flag...

Good luck in starting up an Italian community. WE are getting going in the Netherlands ourselves.

Personally I would try to get together face to face in Italy if at all possible. I would take the opportunity on-line to play against more players and allow more nationalities in. That's what is the strength of the on-line game, lots of opponents of all kinds to play against.

But feel free to do it your way, as I said all kinds Smile

Why not just have everyone bring their own equipment to the event. Then you don't need to have tons of stuff and you can make it as big as the people you have attending the event.

Granted, not everyone will have Memoir '44 stuff (but still might want to attend) but hopefully enough people will have gear to provide it for the others.

We started out that way too. And if one person brings his game usually two can play.

Granted, lately some of us have aquired more stuff so we don't need a lot of people bringing in stuff. Razz

I'm not sure if there is a way to do this in Italy, but could you find a local business to sponsor the event and buy a few sets of Memoir? You could also charge a small fee to participants and put that money towards getting more base games.

Good luck!

Hi Michaelecannone,

It's nice to see you trying to organize an online tournament. My advice would be to start with the official scenarios. Your parameters are good. You could have teams like I do in my tournaments. We play only one side and total up the victories each round. Just something different. You could have someone write SFTF and use those for the tournament. You could then have bonuses with added units each round determined by the margin of victory for the team. You would need to have a scenario writer or writers to do this. It makes it a little different than regular tournaments. Anyway, if there are any other questions I'd be happy to help.

By the way, I got to visit Italy many years ago for a month and met my dad's and mother's relatives. What a country!! Loved every minute of my trip. Also, I see your last name is Cannone. I paint military miniatures that are sculpted by two brothers named Cannone. Their company, Pegaso, is in Rome.
Good Luck!

Eric
