Memoir at World Boardgaming Championships (WBC) in August Sun, 27 April 2014 18:33
Here's a quick preview of Memoir activities at this summer's World Boardgaming Championships, in Lancaster, PA, USA.

(Come one, come all! You'll meet a lot of familiar names from Memoir Online!)

As usual, we'll be playing a 6-round elimination tournament, with a Mulligan round the night before so players can get a second chance if they lose their first match.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Richard Borg has substantially revised six familiar D-Day scenarios specially for this year's tournament. Richard will be at the tournament, too.

Some terrain and units have been moved, and some newer unit types are used. All new unit types will be taught before the tournament and reviewed before each round. Also, for each of the scenarios, the number of medals required for victory has been increased, or the number of cards has been increased, or both.

Copies of these new scenarios will be given to all contestants.

Tournament will be Thursday-Friday, August 7-8.

> Teaching session Thursday 8PM.
> Mulligan round Thursday 9PM
> Tournament resumes Friday 9AM, and continues until only one player is left standing.

We will also have 6 Overlords, including the "Mother of All Overlords." See below for info on that.

The full Event Preview is located at http://www.boardgamers.org/yearbkex/m44pge.htm
WBC's home page, with links for registration, lodging info, etc., is http://www.boardgamers.org
Event page in DOW calendar: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/event/details/?id=1545

WBC will also have tournaments for DOW's Ticket to Ride, Small World, and Pirate's Cove. And for M44's cousins: CCA, CCN, and Battle Cry.

This will be a real blast!

Having space to play and players to experience the entire game, the best combination to have a real Memoir experience.

This looks so tempting. If I'd live in the US, I'd certainly be there. From where I am now, there are a few things to consider before being able to make such a trip. It will probably not be for this year.

If not I will run around Europe playing Memoir. Smile

Have a lot of fun playing over here!

Such a large game would be such a rare experience, I want to accommodate everybody who wants to play.

Depending on numbers and levels of experience, we can do that by pairing newer players with some veterans, or by rotating some players in and out.

Two very good ideas. I would like to game in this from start to finish, but would gladly step aside so that others can get their chance at the plate too.

A side benefit of standing back for a bit would give me the opportunity to shoot soem video and take pics of this rare event.

Sam,

I will be bringing my copy of the new D-Day Overlord maps. Would there be room for a second set-up if we have enough people? Having enough figures may be tough with two games going on at once. It would be nice if everyone interested would get a chance to experience it. How long do you think it would take to play? The extended time may eliminate some players once they know that there will be a pretty long commitment.

In that afternoon slot, in the Demonstration Area, we would only be able to set up the one scheduled mega-game.

In the evening (when we're playing Peleliu), or else Sunday morning, there's no reason why we couldn't set up another mega-game.

We've allotted 4 hours for the mega-game. We'll find out how long it actually takes.

In the Netherlands we have the 12th of July set for the Mega game (and maybe an extra Mega game) we will let you know how that turns out time wise and space wise. That might help. Smile
