winter Wars ? Fri, 11 July 2014 00:27
Hey Gamers,
How you doin?
Just wondering about Winter Wars scenarios, they don't appear to be in online version. I have the expansion and was looking to play one of the battles online, there are 9 listed in the manual, but can not find any of them in any mode, basic, expert, or SFTF.
Whats'up with that?

Thanks, Steve

In order for the scenarios to be playable online, code would have to be written to account for the various rules that come into play such as WINTER WEATHER and REDUCED VISIBILITY rules. It seems that coding new scenarios is not currently a high priority for the DOW staff which is limited in their efforts by their relatively small size and other pressing opportunities. So don't be alarmed, but don't hold your breath either.

Just be thankful you have the "NEW" D-DAY LANDINGS to play and enjoy the Memoir '44 goodness as it comes.

Hey Stevens, thanks for the quick reply. I am thankful for what DOW has put out.

I first bought M44 at Gencon 2004, 60th anniv D-Day, was the launch.

For years I had the game wondering when an online version would come out, not many gamers around here. So , in meantime , played Ticket to Ride.
When online came out, I was ecstatic !! It was like Christmas!
Signed on right away then played a little then got sidetracked by life and all it's doings!
Anyway, started back again in March of this year, and I'm addicted !!

BTW, if DOW staff is small as you say, I will probably be retiring as a doc in next 5 yrs, Maybe you could offer me a job! I would do it for free to be a play tester or whatever!

Peace out! Steve

Hey JayKay,

Thanks for your support, I am ready to enlist !!

Just wondering, would you also like to see some of the winter wars scenarios appear online?

Anyone else out there can also throw their hat in the ring.

Let's see if we can get a popular vote to support this cause!!

This is real politics!! Haha

All those for Winter Wars online, please reply !
Maybe we can all help out!

It's just not right playing the Bastogne scenarios, east, west, St Vith with the green grass! I want to see snow !!

peace out, Steve

Docsteve, have you checked out Vassal? All pieces for all expansions are available there.

Hey I have tried Vassal in past, but I don't get it !! I'm not that tech savvy !! Haha
Anyway I'll ask my 22 y/o son to help me out next time we get together.

In meantime , today I tried to log on to Vassal and had an old version, it asked me to update, result was my computer got totally messed up with unwanted programs which I now have Kaspersky cleaning up! I got some malicious software warnings, etc.
Then it downloaded a lot of extra stuff, like "eminent toolbar" etc.
I had to uninstall all of these, so maybe I did something wrong, but be careful when you upgrade Vassal, you may mess up your computer.

BTW, if I ever get to Vassal, what and how do I use it to play games online? Or is that all explained if I ever get it up and running?

Peace out, Doc

Hi Doc.

Hmm, I haved used Vassal for several years without any major issues. It is what I use on my Memoir '44 ladder (an option you may wish to consider sometime down the road).

Usually any toolbars offered up are options which allow you to decline to install them.

At any rate when I have more time (read - I have to go to work shortly - lol) I will provide you with more info on Vassal.
