messages to buddy list Mon, 21 July 2014 00:59
Hey Friends,

Is there a way to write one message and send it to all on buddy list? If so, send me the details , I am not that tech savvy, although back in 1984 I bought the parts and put my first computer together, even could write DOS files, Autoexec.bat, etc, But this new stuff, with apps and windows has dumbed me up!

To highlight this dumbing up issue,

On the 45th Anniv. of 1st moon landing, Landed on 20th, got out for a stroll on the 21st, while the whole world watched in grainy black and white in middle of night on East coast USA,

Anyway,(making a point here!), I heard a report , that all that Know how is gone, and even though the tech has advanced, we would have to re- research the whole thing again if we wanted to do it all over again.

Also, the Lunar lander had something like 8 megs of memory in it's computer!!(Amazing), the computer got overloaded on final approach to land , so Neil Armstrong had to manually land it!!. Only had about 20 seconds of fuel left when he touched down!!

So, back to original question, can and how do I write one message to all on buddy list?

Don't forget to stay up and watch the re-runs of Apollo 11's landing!!

We beat the Ruskies!! Too bad JFK didn't live to see it, he died to young, along with RFK, Martin Luther King, and honest Abe!
Like the song say, " seems the good all die too young" !

Peace out, Steve

Sorry if I got wordy but it's the painkillers working!, more about that in my next post.

It's not too hard. Here are the steps:

1) Click on your User Name in the top right corner of the screen.
2) On the left side of the screen, under your Avatar, find "Check or Send Private Messages". Click on it.
3) On the right side, click on the "New Private Message" icon.
4) Next to the empty text box where it says, "To:", click on "Select from Buddy List"
5) A small box will pop up. Click on the "All" box to select all of your buddies, or pick the ones you want to send a message to.
6) Compose your message and send it out.

Good luck and have fun! Smile

The main problem is that the tech from back then is simply not used anymore. There is an interesting series of articles on ars techica about the study of the old Saturn V rocket engines. All the bolts and nuts and screws and everything just is impossible to get anymore, not produced. So that means you need to redesign for a retool with modern parts. While you do that you want to do computer modelling. Back then many things could simply not be understood and were done by trial and error and big margins, if it worked, it worked. Now with Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling software we can understand and optimise how things work. Parts can be cast as single pieces rather than using many many welds. The main problem is not so much tech, but that it's hugely expensive. Doing the same thing again, or redoing it the modern way. There is much less willingness to spend billions on it. If the money was there, it could be done again easily.

Edit: the story that you sometimes hear about how the original plans to the Saturn V rocket were lost is an urban legend. They have all the plans. But as I said, it would be impossible to simply remake from designs since the parts no longer exist, and a lot of solutions were improvised by people that are no longer around.
