D-Day Solo Thu, 24 July 2014 14:21
I am playing my second solo game of D-Day Landings, Sword beach. I played American Airborne last Sunday as the Germans, and I won, but barely. Now I am playing the Sword Beach as the British. I roll a six sided die to determine which card I play for the other side. On five cards I roll 1 for the first, 2 for the second 3-4 for the third, 5 for the fourth, and so on. Activated units will always go for the targets of opportunity that are the closest, whether that be a bridge, town, or enemy unit. I got lucky on one reinforcement roll as Germans in AA and got an elite armor unit.

This photo is of my Sword Beach battle so far:

After this photo was taken, I moved the destroyer and two infantry units into my left flank to make more use of my abundance of left flank cards.

After my Hobarts funnies armor unit was destroyed by Big Guns, I got a lucky reinforcement roll and got another. This photo shows my hobarts funny just before it's demise;

I will let you know how this plays out.

I also play solo.

I don't use a die to determine which card I'll play.
I play both sides, taking all decisions for both sides, playing as good as I can for both sides. I even manage to not take into account what cards the other side has. I even attack as if I didn't know the other side has ambush.

Works perfectly well. You should try it. You only need to be fair with yourself, and not advantage one side or the other.

And since you'll play both sides, you'll always win Laughing

I did win as British! I will post a couple more pics when I get home from work (at lunch right now!) I was able to take the beach control and control of at least five towns and enough units to do it.

As promised, this picture shows nearly the end of the game:

The units marked with a die were the last two units to be activated, giving the last town control marker needed to win the game:

This photo shows the screeming meemies that came with the EP that I painted:

The British got better and more reinforcements than the Germans, although they did get at elite armor unit, which my anti-tank SWA unit and one special forces infantry attacked and destroyed in one turn! Lucky Rolls!!

I am surprised to see Allied units so far inland before the game ended (three units near the German baseline).

True! This is something I end up doing quite a lot because there aren't many players around where I am. I always find that it works fine and you don't really have any problems with playing both sides fairly at all. It does mean though, that you enjoy playing with other gamers even more when you get a chance!
