I think Bilben04 has something in the works there....but I should let him speak for himself.

You missed the Overlord beta play on Saturday. Bilben04 did a great job on that! I look forward to trying again.

Re:Extension on Vassal Tue, 18 October 2005 19:24
I should have the Overlord version done and uploaded within the next few days. The new base version of the M44 module still needs a little tweaking, but that and the first extension (Terrain Pack) should follow within about a week or so afterwards. The Eastern Front extension will follow a week or two after that. My goal is to try and get it all done by mid-November.

So just a little patience and it won't be too long. Smile

Merci beaucoup, Simon. I haven't been to Canada for more than 20 years, but if I ever get up that way again I'll look you up. Smile

The new Overlord module has been uploaded to the Vassal web site on the Memoir '44 module Files page. I hope you enjoy it.

If you need a body for doing some Vassal play - look me up.

Always interested in a game..but it's been a while since I last played, so I probably do a lot of stupid things!

Re:Extension on Vassal Thu, 27 October 2005 16:44
I thought I would update you on progress on the Vassal module expansions. After trying it out, I discovered that the extension features in Vassal were too limiting on how I could organize the new material in with the old, so I've decided to just put the expansion material directly into the module itself instead of making extensions. That means the release will take a little longer, but it will be all-inclusive when it is released. Right now I have all the Terrain Pack stuff in the module and I'm working on scenarios (along with some much appreciated assistance by Chris Roper). After that I have the Eastern Front terrain, markers and scenarios. It should be all ready in about a week or so.

Extension on Vassal : where can it be found? Fri, 28 October 2005 08:40
Could someone give me the link to the vassal module's extension?
Is it a modified .mod file or a .mdx one?
In the latter case, where is it placed (special folder?).
Thanks.

That link should take you directly to the M44 Vassal Module download page. There is a newer version coming with the expansion packs included, but you can download the original game for now and get involved. Choose the "Files" link right above the map and then choose "Memoir44.v4.1.mod" to get the main game. You can also download the Overlord extension here, if you are so inclined.

You should use the .mod file extension. Most Vassal modules you download already have the correct extension, although in some cases you may see something like "module.zip.mod" instead. This is perfectly fine and Vassal will work with this filename, too. As long as the final extension is .mod, it should work.

I created a new subdirectory in the Vassal main directory called "Modules" and I place all the Vassal modules I have in that location. That makes it easy to load up whatever game I want to play at the time, since they are all in the same place. Then when you choose "Load Module" in Vassal, navigate to your Modules directory and away you go!

I own several of the games that have modules made for Vassal, such as "Arab Israeli Wars", "First Team in Vietnam", "BattleCry" and "Memoir44" of course, and "World in Flames" from ADG. They are all well done and depict the actual games quite well. Vassal is a great tool, I look forward to Matrix Games handling it, although I wonder if they will charge a fee for it and the modules in the future?

Re:Extension on Vassal Sat, 29 October 2005 23:23
I already have installed the Vassal module, but I was asking about the terrain and eastern front extensions : you seem to say a new module will soon be produced including them.
With VASL (the Vassal ASL module), there often are extensions that one can add and that don't ask for a new module to be installed (these extensions are the *.mdx files I was writing about).
Thank you for the input. It answers my question.

No they will not charge take a look at this thread:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=910779&mpage= 1&key=vassal&#910947

These two lines in particular:
Quote:

Matrix will not charge for the use of VASSAL.
Let me say that again - Matrix is not going to "SELL" VASSAL.

Cheers

The new Memoir '44 module (v5)has been uploaded containing the new materials from the Terrain Pack and Eastern Front expansions. Make sure to read the M44 User's Guide in the Help section of the new module, as changes to the base module are listed there.

Re:Extension on Vassal Mon, 07 November 2005 19:28
I looked a little bit at Vassal, and I became confused by the apparant Free-as-in-freedom LGPL license on sourceforge, but the totally we-will-screw-with-you-whenever-we-feel-like-it-at-our-sole- discretion click thru license on the java application I downloaded. I decided to reject the license and delete vassal. Anyone know why there's the licensing bait'n'switch?

The test module on the Vassal website was done by another person. And he does have some good ideas in there. I plan to poll the regular players about some of these features for inclusion in future versions of the module.
