New Help Sheet (includes Pacific Theatre Expansion) Mon, 31 July 2006 22:14
I've done up a help sheet that includes the new expansion. It's a mix of Brummbar's & Seb's (in English). Not as nice looking as the other two but I think it does the trick.

I've posted the file on the M44 Platoon Fan Site:

http://www.m44platoon.com/index.php?option=com_content&t ask=view&id=58&Itemid=45

Any feedback is welcome.

Great job on the sheet!

Only had a chance to skim it yet, But the organization of it is perfect. Simple coloumns for each feild, everything falls into place nicely. Well done and thanks!

fairly clear and simple. nice job.

one thing i am not sure of is the "circle-slash" symbol as it is not clearly identified. it took me a bit to figure out what it was trying to say. I guess it basically means "no" but it just didn't flow well with the headings in my opinion. I liked the way others emphasised the remarks in red or green based on whether it was a yes or no. I find myself looking at the symbol, then looking at the chart, and then trying to figure out what it means in this case. It just seems like this could be streamlined a bit more to be more consistent with the other info.

Good job.
The circle thing didn't bother me at all. The sheets will probably be very useful, gets tedious to look in different manuals for terrain info when you're using all the expansions etc.
Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the nice words and feedback. ColtsFan, I've replaced that awkward symbol with a red "no-go" symbol similar to what Brummbar and Sébast used in their sheets. Hope that clears up any confusion.

I corrected an error in v2 of the Help Sheet (resistance fighters should have 3 figures vice 4). V3 is now posted:

Great work but I have a few suggestions oddball...

a)For hedgegrow special rules I would add to the explanation "Must stop on exit" to maintain consistency with other "must stop on exit" terrain.

b)flooded field - add "to move onto it a unit must be adjacent to it"

c)Pier - may move onto from land OR BEACH hex

d) Battlehships - add "cant move onto ocean hex adjacent to beach"

Thank you for this aid, it is extremely helpful.
One suggestion:
Under "Engineers-special rules" shouldn't the second sentence say "must clear minefields instead of battle"

Re:New Help Sheet (includes Pacific Theatre Expansion) Thu, 10 August 2006 20:57
couple other things:

is it possible to change the order of the hexes? it appears they are grouped according to similarities in terrain. maybe alphabetical might be better? just another personal observation.

the "fordable river" should be called a "fordable stream." this terminology has caused some heartburn already and this label confuses the matter.

beaches should be listed as 2 hex max for movement for all units. I believe that beaches override the cards (or more appropriately the card states that terrain effects cannot be ignored) so a person couldn't move an INF 3 with the Infantry Assault card.

"battleships" should be "war ships" - so far the game only has destroyers and carriers - but no battleships. we may see them in the future so it helps clear up any future confusion.

under "Optional Targeting" it should be clear that only "Recon 1" cards can be used as an air power card.

there are 2 options to blow up a bridge. one is an automatic if you sacrifice the appropriate command card and do not draw again. you only have "option 2" listed.

that's all i can see for now. i'll try to spend some time reviewing it in more detail when i have the rules in front of me. keep up the good work!!! (don't mean to sound so negative with my nitpicking - just want to have the best resource possible!)

Re:New Help Sheet (includes Pacific Theatre Expansion) Sun, 13 August 2006 08:59
A few more suggestions...

1.)Caves - Only Japaneese can claim a a defensive position (and apply the -2).

2.) For the special rules part of caves The sealing cave part should read "In lieu of battling, Allied infantry seals a cave hex by moving onto it & rolling a star provided there are no enemy units in adjacent hexes. Once sealed turn hex over."

3.)Wadis - Infantry and Armor Units (instead of just units) battling into or out of a wadis must be adjacent to their target.

4.)Dam - Armor and Artillery cant move onto Dam so the no circle should replace "stop"

5.)Hospital - Special rules should read.. "In lieu of moving or battling, an Infantry unit may recover lost figures IAW Medics & Mechanics card by rolling 6 dice provided there are no enemy units adjacent."

6)HQ & Supply = Special rules should read "If enemy captures, randomly reduce command cards in hand by 1. If recaptured (by enemy moving or dying), increase number of command cards by 1."

7.) Mines - special rules should state how mines remain even if detinated.

8.) Depot is Supply Depot...Ruins are City Ruins

9.) Road - I would factor in the discussion on this forum about roads and elite infantry..heres the jist I got from it

On a road only*

All Infantry move 1-2 and Battle, or 3 and not battle

*Infantry Assault card only*

All Infantry move 1-2 and battle, or 3 and not battle

*Infantry Assault on Road*

All Infantry move 1-3 and battle, or 4 and not battle

10) Imperial Japanese Army Rules - Add on Infantry Assault card 0-2 btl, 3 no btl

11.) The last paragraph of Marine Corps explanation isin't needed in my opinion provided players understand that a counter attack card simply allows thr player to take the last card played by the opponent and play it as it was his.

12.) Just to double check, to keep the terrian under 2 pages, You have eliminated Hill With Forest (Same as forest not hill), Hill with Village (same as Village not hill), Labor camp (scenario specific), Road Crossing railroad, and Road Crossing Hill.

Thank you so much for this help sheet. This makes play with new and experienced players so much easier. I personally think DOW should post this help sheet on front page.

I've updated the help sheet (v6) and posted it in two formats - depicting the order of the terrain tiles either by similarities in terrain (original) and alphabetically.

http://www.m44platoon.com/index.php?option=com_content&t ask=view&id=58&Itemid=40

Regarding the special rules for HQ & Supply Tents, Spanks brings up a good point: how is the term "reclaiming the hex" to be interpreted? I started a new thread posing this question at

http://www.daysofwonder.com/index.php?t=msg&th=8035& rid=86328&S=6f1f9bdf56b8770de29fe1b159ed30b8&start=0 #msg_60364

Thanks again for all the feedback.

Thanks for a great Help Sheet! Very Happy I have used this many times already, and has saved me so much time searching through the rule books. PLUS, when you have more than one expansion, this saves time because, now you need to search through more than one rule book. Great job! Also, it is nice and easy to read and understand too.

Jim
