BatteLore editor - PDF Output beta bugs Mon, 28 May 2007 18:19
The first beta of the PDF output for our Adventure Editor went live a few hours ago.

Please post any bug, cosmetic or otherwise, along with as precise a description of the problem you observed. We will progressively tackle them as they come.

thank you,

Thanks a lot for that. And I have 2 remarks

1) Seems to be only available on the English pages. Empty line in the menu on the German page. Any date for that ??

2) Background checkbox seems to have no effect - no background in any case (using A4 format, letter not checked)

Actually, The feature is already there...
All that was missing were the labels...
I added the english ones so that you can access the feature. German translations of them will soon follow...

About the second point, I'm afraid I can't answer...
Actually it works for me...

I just tried the german version at scenario 11A. If I uncheck the background box., the special rules for the scenario are missing

Edit:

Also the sign for First Player is missing.

Wow! Looks awesome!

One issue I see is that the PDF image is not showing the "1" seal for the first player in the scenario.

Keep up the good work! Smile My Call to Arms expansion arrived today!!

I get a "user unauthorized" error message as well.

Any thoughts on what is wrong?

Long text in for example scenario 815 is not printed well.
It will just end on the right hand side and is not continued on a next page.

But great work for a first beta... Lets keep those versions coming ...

@Franck :

yeah, in the meantime also in the German version. Looks great.

Regarding the background issue - seems to be a problem with my download manager . If ackI use it the background is not included in the pdf, if I transfer without - directly via browser - the background is there. Both files have the same size but the content is different. I'm completly puzzled.
So not a problem of your tool , but .. I've no idea

Thanks and Ciao

Good job! Looks brilliant. (In German too)
But a view comments from me.
a, "Victory Conditions" should be in two lines
b, The number of Victory Conditions should be white (black on brown is hard to read )
c, Known problem with long texts in Briefing, Conditions of Victory, Special Rules ...

A few urgent bug fixes for now:
a) User unauthorized message no longer shows up when trying to print your own private scenarios
b) With no background, text is now always printed in black (not in white as was sometimes the case before)
c) headers are now also translated

a) YES
b) this is only true with no background, in which case I might just remove the council background
c) Yes, I will reduce the font size when necessary

Some other points I noticed

a, Needed landscape discs don't fit if there are too much different. (e.g. Official Scenario 26A). Perhaps smaller illustration or a single page only for the landscape discs in this cases would help.

b,In some cases it may be a benefit to have a smaller font size, in other I think a thrid page with the information on it would be better. ( Some people are writing nearly books in the Briefing, etc. so a font that fits wouldn't be legible)

c, I wouldn't remove the council background. Just switch the color of the number for victory to white.

d, The indicator for the player which begins is missing

e, The Unit labels are hard to read in some cases. Position on the top or bottom may help.

Perhaps it seems that I'm fussy, but I just want to help. Nevertheless I'm totally enthused with the pdf-Creator and I know that it's hard work.

It looks like the 'Setup Order' list of terrain is not showing up on .PDFs of epic boards. At least, its not showing up on 29A.

As someone mentioned above, seems the person who should go first is not printing when you select/check "print background."

Hopefully that will get fixed pretty soon!

I'm downloading the official scenarios using the export to PDF feature and there's one problem that so far appears in all PDF's: the medal indicating who's first player for the scenario doesn't appear on the PDF. I've tried both Letter and A4 sizes, with and without background and the medal that shows up on the web indicating the first player just doesn't appear in none of the PDF's. This so far is true for all exported PDF's. I've retried with different Adobe Acrobat versions, and in different computers, both at work and at home with Firefox and IE6 and IE7, and this medal is allways missing.

Anyone else has this problem?

First off, GREAT JOB!!!

The only major problems with the ENG version that I've seen (after creating seven adventures with the basic board, i.e. NO EPIC) are:

1. As some have mentioned: NO FIRST PLAYER RIBBON MARKER.

2. A post stated that you were aware of this one: LONG BRIEFINGS DO NOT CARRY OVER TO AN ADDITIONAL PAGE IN EXPORT TO PDF.

3. THE SWAMP AND CLIFF TILES ARE NOT LIMITED IN ANY WAY BY THE TERRAIN CHECKER. It does not reveal over-limit problems.

4. USING TOO MANY TYPES OF TERRAIN, SIMILAR TO THE LONG BRIEFINGS, JUST SEEM TO DISAPPEAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE NEXT TO THE MAP. You can have up to seven types of terrain shown for set-up next to the map, after that, they disappear. At least one of my adventures just cut off any terrain notations after seven, even though the map clearly showed that there were other tiles to place.

5. Everything looks GREAT! Keep up the good work, guys. It's really cool of you.

1. Done.
2. Better, if it does not work on a specific scenario please reply with its url.
3. Not an export PDF problem. But I believe it is fixed.
4. Better, once again, if it does not work on a specific scenario please reply with its url.
5. You are welcome. Thank you for having taken the trouble to list the bugs that bugged you. Laughing

I just created adventure 2245

http://www.daysofwonder.com/battlelore/en/battlelore_editor/ view/?id=2245&returnto=fans

While creating it, the pdf did display the needed mountains, hills and rivers. It did not display the number of marshes or cliffs.

Then I changed some more in the adventure and added some fordable tags.

Now it doesn't create a legend of any item in the PDF anymore...

Sounds like the same problem I posted earlier. I see yours is an epic map.. was it epic initially?

I created an Epic scenario last week and not all the terrain types are displayed in the legend in .PDF format. It seems whatever fits on the first page is displayed, but not the rest.

Only think that I've found, with this latest release (and has been there before) is if one Exports the PDF and then prints inside Acrobat, the adventure number doesn't print out. Everything else prints out (Name of adventure, when it was released, and the year of battle) - just not the adventure #.

It does print the adventure # when one uses Print View. But Print View doesn't print the expansion it was released from (i.e. Adventure 37A, it doesn't print Goblin Marauders #2). Export PDF and print does print this though.

Not a real big issue since one can write on the adventure printout the adventure number. Likewise for the expansion item for Print View.

Just thought I point that out and thus if there be another update to maybe fix this item as well.

I just started looking into the PDFs (figured I would wait until most of the bugs got worked out first) and agree with Caboose that it would be nice to print out with the scenario #. I know the numbers better that just the titles. Plus I want to be able to print these out and put in a binder.

Another wishful item -

To have a list of the number of type of units for each side.

Example :
Pennant
2 Green Foot Units
3 Blue Foot Units
2 Blue Mounted Units
1 Green Archer Units

Standards
1 Green Foot Units
3 Blue Foot Units
1 Blue Mounted Units
3 Green Archer Units

If space is at a premium, maybe have it as such (using the above numbers) :

Green Foot Units : 2 Pennants, 1 Standard
Blue Foot Units : 3 Pennants, 3 Standard
Blue Mounted Units : 2 Pennants, 1 Standard
Green Archer Units : 1 Pennant, 3 Standards

Definitely helps when you are trying to set up the same board for tournament.

Like I said, be a nice item to have if possible, since it does save some time when setting up for a tournament.

Used this for the first time today on a Medieval (non-Lore) adventure using a PC running Explorer. Generally fantastic!

Some hopefully helpful comments:

1. Could the space for Victory Conditions and Special Rules be bigger? There seems to be wasted space on the blue areas under the commander names, and between the commander names and the board.

2. My Historical Notes text wasn't resized to any degree, so had to tailor them to fit the area.

PDF output name errors in PDF exporter for Official and Fan scenarios

(If this is not the right forum to post this in, please feel free to place it in the right one.)

I noticed today that when I export a PDF the names of the resulting PDF files seem to be out of sync with their actual names.

I found this to be consistent whether I used IE 7.0.5730.11 or Firefox 2.008.

For example, when I exported scenario 11A Two Bridges - Spring 1362 the filename came out as "scenario_16_L_Bv1_en.pdf" (which is what I expected for the real scenario 16, the Battle of Lewes).

I then exported scenario 16, the Battle of Lewes, and the filename came up as "scenario_361_L_B_v1_en.pdf." As popular as Battlelore is, I don't think there are 361 scenarios yet!

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the fact the these browsers support tabs, and having other, tabbed pages open with other scenarios open makes a difference... as both browsers made the same file naming error, I believe the error is from the PDF exporter passing an erroneous file name in the first place.

This is not a big deal, as the maps are correct and all graphics present. However, I wanted to let you know! Cool

Looks nice! Mayby also mention 1 or 2 basic sets, which expansions,.... I play always epic but I only have one basic set. Then it would be easier to look for a (fan) scenario.

Still observing the following:

1. On a user-scenario pdf there seems to be wasted space on the blue areas under the commander names, and between the commander names and the board, that could be reduced in size to allow the Special Rules text to be sized up.

2. Long Historical Notes text isn't being resized to fit the box at all. Can this be fixed?

I concur with both items above from Yangtze - they are definitely issues and should be looked into and fixed. More so if medieval lore rules are in effect and thus no war council, no need to print out a section for the war council!!

In regards to Yangtze's campaign War of the Roses, seems if one exports to PDF and prints his scenarios, due to the number of briefing items, one cannot make out the briefing items. And thus when printed is unreadable. Thus any way when there is a lot of briefing information to either allow for a 3rd page or something to make LONG/large briefing notes readable ? Definitely very noticeable on Don's War of the Roses scenarios for sure.

In addition I know this thread has to do with the PDF Output, but I've noticed a bug in regards to Print View. If one prints in Landscape view, on page one it tries to put the war council / combatants info on the page at the bottom and there is NOT enough room for it!! I'm using letter size paper. Thus it would seem prudent to move that information to page 2 on the right side of the paper. And probably should be done not matter if done in landscape or portrait

Export of PDF where there is a Dwarf Spear Bearer for the Standard side - Seems when it is exported, the white background that is normally there for Standard pennant disappears. Shows okay when you see it in the editor but once you export, the normal white background that is there Standard banner is not there for the Dwarf Spear Bearer unit.
