The medal should say Iron Men, Iron Tanks etc in plural form to reflect the correct way to achieve this medal.

I find it hard to call this an ACHIEVEMENT when it is merely the MISFORTUNATE dice rolls of your opponent that renders you this award. You do nothing... And so it is shear luck alone which grants this award to those who receive it. I think Dietrich stated it best.

The only strategic element that can help one to get this medal is to make sure there is space to flee from flag(s) that can't be ignored.

Well, stevens, we all know this game is 99% skill and 1% luck so it stands to reason a unit might survive!! LOL! And that is what they do, survive due to the misfortune of others, at least where INFANTRY is concerned.

Obviously, ARMOR and ARTILLERY more difficult to hit and in the case of my IRON TANK it was at PONYRI, behind sandbags and only 2 shots at a time, a little easier to survive. As for our friend ARTY, they were up on Hill 178 and not an easy target to reach until his ARMOR took and missed 6 shots and 2 each from INF and A/P, can easily happen and that 1% comes into play! INFANTRY, yes, those are just misses and darn lucky!! The saying is "Better to be lucky than good" and at least in regards to IRON MAN very true!!

As for me, I need all the luck I can get to win some games!! Another saying, "Only the good die young" and the lucky live to a ripe old age!!

Just want to clarify: does this award get given if the unit has a total of ten dice rolled (or ten dice rolls?) and suffers absolutely no damage (or isn't eliminated?)?

From the award page for this medal:

Iron man

One of your infantry units resisted 10 dice without suffering loss

However, it appears that how it really works is that any 10 misses in a row against any infantry targeted gets one this medal.

So going through one replay shows this:

Allied turn 1: Inf A - miss / miss

Allied turn 2: Inf B - miss / miss
Inf A - miss / miss

Alllied turn 3: Inf C - miss / miss / miss
Inf B - miss / miss

So, three different infantry targeted over three turns and the first 10 dice were all misses (actually 11 but that last did not matter).

Added to that if a single infantry withstands 10 dice without suffering casualties you will not get the medal if in the mean time another infantry suffers a hit.

Re:Army of Iron club Sun, 02 February 2014 21:16
So that means the award is treating the whole set of units of infantry as one unit. If my opponent targets 5 units of infantry in one assault and rolls 2 dice against each and doesn't hit with any dice, will that give the medal?

I'm gonna go back and look at my iron gun award based on what you told me, because it seemed I shouldn't have gotten it, but it may make sense in light of what you observed!

Re:Army of Iron club Mon, 03 February 2014 00:44
tank commander, you are spot on. my artys in the game I got my award...

turn 1: arty B: miss
turn 2: arty B: miss, miss, miss
turn 3: arty A: miss, miss
turn 4: arty B: miss
turn 5: arty B: miss, miss
turn 6: arty A: miss (10)

So, like you said about infantry, I guess it works this way with all three awards?! Armor, too?

This is the top ten list of scenarios in which the 300 latest iron gun medals were achieved. The rough material does not specify on which side, but if you take a close look I guess it shows.

So if anyone gets invited by me for one of these battles go for my arty and miss at least 10 times.
Thanks

Thank you, you are a true gentleman Smile

By the way, Lipovec has ranking nr 24 (3 iron guns out of 300).

And an officer, too... Very Happy

Thanks for those stats, Dietrich. I feel good about getting it on one so low on the list.

Do you have stats for Iron Tank and Iron Man as well?

Does the list take into account the number of times each scenario is played? I suspect the top three probably get played a lot more than Hill 178 as that scenario is very unbalanced.

In other words, your chances of getting the Iron Gun are probably not better if you play a certain scenario over another unless one has blitz rules.

The list is a summary of the latest 300 battles in which the medal was achieved, based on: http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/achievements/ recent/?achievement=52#backtolist

I think that scenarios in which the enemy is provoced to attack your arty turn after turn provide more chance for an Iron Gun medal than those in which artillery fire isn't that effective. So if you have artillerie in your front then this gives you more chance (I think). Another thing that might help more is praying the opponent throws lousy dice Smile

Albert Einstein said, 'God does not play dice with the universe.'

But if Einstein played M'44 he might have have added on...'except in certain M'44 scenarios...' Rolling Eyes

Re:Army of Iron club Tue, 25 February 2014 23:33
Thanks to nothing but "PURE LUCK", my opponent missed my infantry as Allies the entire game. Lots of Flags, Stars and Armor against them. As a result today I received the IRON MAN Infantry badge and now can officially join the Army of Iron Club.

The amazing thing is that he shot at my infantry ONLY ten times in total and yet still missed every time.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=40 240256

I am surprised to see that to date 294 people have received the IRON MAN. A lot more than I would think.
