What am I playing, and what am I not Mon, 18 June 2012 11:43
Did a look at what scenarios I am playing the most, and which I am not.

Here are my Top 10

Juno Beach 40
First Assault Wave 36
Saverne Gap 29
Operation Cobra 27
Arnhem Bridge 24
Sainte-Mère-Eglise 23
Pegasus Bridge 23
1st Armoured to the rescue 22
Escape via the Coastal Road 20
The Meat Grinder 20

Hmm, a lot of that is testament to promotion requirements

Juno and Pegasus are D -Day matches and the free ones, so these were where I used to play cadets a lot whilst trying to get to the magic 25. SME will be up there for similar reasons.

Omaha and Arnhem will be there not just because they are 80:20 scenarions you need to win both ways to get promoted, but also where I have played people trying for Cpt.

1st Armoured and Escape are up there now thanks to me trying to win them both sides on the anniversy.

This leaves the 3 there on merit:
Saverne
Cobra
Meat Grinder

Which are all fine, though I have hardly played the last two since making Col.

Here is what I am not playing:

Counter-attack on Mortain 9
Suomussalmi 9
Gold Beach 8
Twin Villages 8
Montélimar 8
Tunisia 7
Utah Beach 6
Rzhev 4
Operation Goodwood 2

True to form I cannot remember much about these.

Goodwood I played twice when it came out and have since ignored it. Utah is played 6 times too many IMO.

Suomussalmi is a fine scenario and I am suprised to see it so few times here.

Gold is meh, the others I will take another look at.

RBF comes in the middle at 16, so I am definitely not part of that clique...

Re:What am I playing, and what am I not Mon, 18 June 2012 13:02
I have my records in a spreadsheet analysed by theatre and scenario which makes answering this post easier.

Montelimar is my go to scenario, my most played scenario of the standard 49 (13.7% played 70% wins).

It is balanced, both sides have all units, a good mix of terrain, objective medals. It is a good scenario to play against novice and experienced players.

2nd on my list is a surprise to me - Twin Villages (5.2% played 62.6% wins).

My playing numbers/percentages are skewed as there were not many scenarios to play in the "early days."

Least played is Rzhev (0.39% played 81.8% wins).

My 10 most played scenarios (1st to last) are
Montélimar
Twin Villages
Operation Cobra
Ponyri
Into the Cauldron
Escape via the Coastal Road
Saverne Gap
Suomussalmi
St Vith
Sword Beach

The 1st Pacific scenario is #14 Sugar Loaf and Half Moon
(played 2.09% won 62.7%)

I could give similar statistics since my last promotion - but I won't bore you any further.

Re:What am I playing, and what am I not Mon, 18 June 2012 13:31
Here is my top 10 of maps played (total for both sides) :

- RBF : 130
- Gates of Moscow : 56
- Saverne's gap : 46
- Juno beach : 29
- Pegasus bridge : 28
- Sidi Rezegh's airfield : 26 *
- Meat grinder : 25
- 1st wave (Omaha) : 24
- Ponyri / Lysianka / Tunisia / Sword beach / Wake's island : 20 each
- Japanese counterattack / Cobra / Halfaya's pass : 19 each

=> regarding "Sidi Rezegh", I failed so many times to win that map on my way through Colonel that I played it very often.
I do not like that map. Played it once again yesterday to be sure. I am sure.

Favourite maps : mostly eastern front (RBF, Moscow, Lysianka) with meatgrinder for Pacific, Omaha and Saverne for western, and Halfaya & Tunisia for med'.

Less played maps :
- Carentan : 0
- Utah beach, Goodwood & Panzer vs Grants : 4 each
- Knightsbridge : 5
- Liberation of Paris & Gallabat-Metemma : 6 each
- Spring : 7
- Arnhem bridge, Matanikau river, counterattack on Mortain : 8
- 1st armour to the rescue, Guam's landings, Austen's mounts (?), Vassieux : 9

All other are 10+.

Least favourite maps : Utah, Gallabat, Arnhem.
I am not at ease with japanese front, so at the exception of Meatgrinder, haven't played them a lot.
Panzer vs Grants (2 games each side) is my only 100% victories, and I did not get back to it.

My best ratios on maps (at least 6 games each side, i.e. at least 12 games overall) :
- Operation Cobra : 19 games, 94,7%
- Mont Mouchet : 14 games, 78,6%
- RBF : 130 games, 75,4%
- Wake's island : 20 games, 75%
- Arracourt : 12 games, 75%
- Saverne's gap : 46 games, 73,9%
- St Vith : 19 games, 73,7%
- Pegasus bridge : 28 games, 71,4%

My worst ratios on maps (at least 4 games each side, i.e. at least 8 games overall) :
- halfmoon & sugar loaf : 11 games, 27,3%
- Vassieux : 9 games, 33,3%
- Rhzev : 10 games, 40%
- Austen's mount : 9 games, 44,4%
- Montélimar : 18 games, 44,4%
- the cauldron : 11 games, 45,5%
- Tunisia : 20 games, 50%
- battle of Warsaw : 12 games, 50%

Top 10 out of 447 battles (non solo games):

Ponyri 30
Breakout to Lisyanka 22
Operation Cobra 21
Red Barricades Factory 21
Hellfire Pass 20
Wake Island 19
Slopes of Mount Austen 18
The Meat Grinder 18
Breakout at Klin 18
Rzhev 16

Ponyri because I like it (7 medals, usually hard fight for the 2-medal town).
Breakout to Lisyanka: training for an on-line tournament
Cobra: training for Metagame online
RBF and Hellfire Pass, because I like them
Japanese scenarios: training for the first M44 French Federation online tournament
Breakout at Klin and Rzhev: hard to win as Allies to get promoted to Lt Colonel

My favourite as Allies is Hellfire Pass, and RBF as Axis.

Top 10 - most played:
129 Red Barricades Factory - Like it alot: you get your money's worth when playing this one.
75 Operation Cobra - Like it
63 Montélimar - Get invited to it alot
55 The Meat Grinder - Like it
49 Rzhev - Played alot to try and get certain awards - and like it
47 Juno Beach - Often join it when someone is waiting to play it - it's free
47 Ponyri - Get invited to it alot
45 Arnhem Bridge - Like it alot
37 Twin Villages - Like it
32 First Assault Wave - Like it. When I initiate players to the game, they want to play this one.

Should be in my top 10 instead of Ponyri, Juno Beach and Montélimar, because I like them more:
27 Japanese Counterattack (currently spot 15)
20 Sword Beach (spot 22)
16 Slopes of Mount Austen (spot 31)

Bottom 11 (ther is a tie) - least played:
12 Liberation of Paris
12 Sainte-Mère-Eglise
12 Mont Mouchet
12 Knightsbridge
11 Toulon
9 Pointe-du-Hoc
9 Tunisia
9 Flanking Maneuver at Bir Hakeim
8 Gold Beach
6 Operation Goodwood
5 Carentan Causeway
I like all of these much less.

Some that could tumble into my bottom 10 - least played:
14 Counter-attack on Mortain
14 Utah Beach
13 Sidi Rezegh Airfield
These three only have more plays because I had a hard time winning the weaker side.
15 Gallabat & Metemma has 15 plays only because I tested the strategy to retreat across the river.

I agree these are some good ones. I put in bold the ones I especially enjoy because of the challenge each side faces.

Not that we don't or won't listen Magnus but we just might not agree with you. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

I have played Warsaw 47 time (1.66% of my games) 26 times as Axis 21 times as Allies winning 32 times (68.09%) 17 Axis wins 15 Allied wins. Not quite random.

Warsaw might be random

I don't care because it is not fun for either side

Germans - I plink at infantry in fortresses with my tanks rolling 1 die at a time

Poles - I shoot at tanks with infantry 1 die at a time

Fair enough.

And my main beef with Warsaw is that it's considered a 3 star game when there's so many better maps with only 2 stars... Opinions, I know Smile

And I agree with van Voort that it's mostly a boring shooting match (because there's only really that one strategy for both sides).

I agree with you Magnus. And as allies, you can't do anything with right flank cards. You cand even maneuver into a position where you can do anything with right flank cards.

You are an experienced player, Phread; if your opponents weren't experienced ones and risked an all-out charge strategy or alike, that would skew the numbers.
I agree that there is only 1 strategy in this map (shooting from a distance), but I could be missing something: it's not unusual that I am surprised at a given familiar map with a total unexpected strategy by an experienced player, unfortunately Razz

Bloody Ridge 35
Into the Cauldron 30
Twin Villages 30
Suomussalmi 26
Sword Beach 25

Italy:The Gothic Line, A.K.A. Po Valley 30

I originally didn't care for Twin Villages, but because it was balanced (40-60%) I kept playing to improve my German performance.

I like Saverne Gap but "only" played it 16x.
I would have played Battle of Warsaw more than 22x, but it didn't count as East for promotion.

Note: these numbers include face-to-face and Vassal games, but not solo.

What I am playing:

1. Scenarios in Looney Llama's SFTF Eastern Front Tournament.
2. Scenarios in the Troika's Season 7 Tournament.
3. Various scenarios in the Mediterranean, Western and Eastern fronts where I still need a victory on one side or the other to be promoted to COL.
4. Pegasus Bridge (mostly against cadets, also for promotion to COL).
5. Whatever anyone else invites me to play (usually).

What I am not playing:

6. SFTF scenarios (except for #1 and #5 above), as they are not needed for promotion to COL.
7. The new scenarios (except for #2 and #5 above), for the same reason as #6 above.

To date I have played 3247 multiplayer standard battles.

My top 10 played are as follows

#	Played	% Played	Axis	Allied	Wins	% Wins	Scenario Axis Wins	Allieyd Wins
1	526	16.20%	273	253	382	72.62%	Montélimar 186 196
2	158	4.87%	71	87	97	61.39%	Twin Villages 33 64
3	142	4.37%	78	64	89	62.68%	Ponyri 46 43
4	140	4.31%	69	71	92	65.71%	Operation Cobra 37 55
5	112	3.45%	59	53	68	60.71%	Escape via Coastal Road	35 33
6	109	3.36%	60	49	76	69.72%	Into the Cauldron 40 36
7	104	3.20%	57	47	66	63.46%	St Vith 35 31
8	103	3.17%	51	52	69	66.99%	Suomussalmi 35 34
9	102	3.14%	57	45	71	69.61%	Saverne Gap 39 32
10	101	3.11%	59	42	68	67.33%	Hellfire Pass 36 32

I like Montélimar as it is an even scenario with both sides having all types of units, objective medals and enough - nut not too much terrian. 5 cards per side. Given reasonable dice and cards both sides can win.

It is a good scenario in which to play a less experienced player.

These following are the scenarios I've played less than 10 times.
Counter-Attack at Arras
Carentan
Battle for Hill 178
[Normandy] Bretel Wood
Forêt d'Ecouves
Moyland Wood
[Normandy] Vaumicel Manor
Strasbourg
Tenaru
Battle of Kalatch
Mignano Monte Lungo
Russian Breakout
[Normandy] Battle of Tilly-sur-Seulles (a standard scenario for only a day or two.)
Clearing Matanikau River
Lipovec
