The promotion conditions for colonel state this:
"Colonels have seen - and won - it all... But the capacity to train new Cadets into Combat is what makes a true leader!"
Does this mean an extra 17x2 victories necessary to promote? Or am I wrong?

Could be wrong Dietrich, but I think it unnescessary to win all the NEWER scenarios for promotion. Although winning them does count towards your numbers of scenarios won.

Still chasing the 250 total wins after LTC requirement.
|
As the release was scenarios only it would be unlikely that the software is aware of the new scenarios for awards and promotions.
That said they might - to be confirmed - count when one needs a number of wins in each theatre.
However it might be safer - for promotion purposes - to count on those scenarios that existed whent the award or promotion was announced/released.

Stevens/Phread :
Yeah - you both have valid points regarding the total wins tally...
On one hand, it makes sense that the tally function is directed at a specific grouping of scenarios ( pre new 17 Official ), and on the other it seems simplest to just program it to tally whatever scenarios exist under Official...
Anyway - these are too attractive to pass or delay just for the sake of those silver eagles - if they count they count, if not - not.

Now we just need a player to get promoted immediately after playing one of these scenarios. Check your Lipovec and Tenaru games against Cadets, folks.

It may be the victory versus a cadet that triggered this promotion, not the victory in a "new" scenario.
Victories in the new scenarios may not be required in winning all scenarios on the way to becoming a colonel.

I think we can safely assume that the requirement to win all scenarios from both sides hasn't expanded to include the new scenarios ( ? )
Does it need to at some point? Seems like a logical assumption - probably makes sense to also pull in those other scenarios that were not a part of the original group. Implementation / programming would almost certainly be a bit of a puzzle - perhaps Memoir44 Online v 2.0 or something?
The question regarding whether or not the new scenarios count specific to a Total Win tally still seems to be unanswered.
Without specifically officially disclosing anything, could DOW not make a statement regarding this issue?
Perhaps something along the lines of : ~ *If* 250 total wins ( among other things ) were required for promotion to Colonel, the new scenarios would / would not count ~ ?

They've been very canny so far in NOT telling anybody what the promotion requirements are
I doubt that will change any time soon
I also doubt that they will change the requirements for the existing ranks

Woo hoo! I've won all 17 from both sides...it took me a few days to win at Lipovec as the Russians, but I finally accomplished it (after losing 2-3 times as the axis). Winning there required a lot of patience, luck, and more patience...
Good luck to anyone else attempting this feat!

Well done Geoff. I was trying to accomplish the same, but still have some wins to go. I think I have appointed the appropriate two points player for the tournament. But, there is another thing we can conclude: there is no new rank attached to winning the new scenarios both sides.

Hello Geoff, many thanks again for the huge and fascinating work you've done.
Just for curiosity, I looked up all 58 unclassified maps that are still unpublished, and I must admit that in five cases I was so far unable to find out what prevents them from being published. They are:
1327 Yellow Beach (I guess it is the bluff, but there is also a bluff in Pointe du Hoc, and if I understand it right, the bluff here is impassable anyway)
1583 Battle of the Bridgehead (should work without problems, maybe some legal or copyright issues because this is neither from Richard Borg nor from Jacques David?)
1584 Kasserine Pass (Maybe the 2-hex hill movement, although I think we have something like this in Mortain. Like 1583, this map is also from another author)
6564 Cisterna di Littoria (Probably the Air Strikes, although we have something similar in Mortain)
7049 The Road of Dabo (Barrage instead of Air Strike, but this seems similar to Suomussalmi)
Could you maybe help me out? I would be very grateful for the actual reasons.

Yellow Beach: As you guessed, it is the bluff. In the pre-Air Pack version, it is a 3-hex move up the bluff. In the Air Pack version, it is impassable from the beach, but there are no restrictions from the countryside. I don't believe that either of those options can be programmed.
Kasserine Pass and Battle of the Bridgehead: As you note, these were designed by fans of the game and not DoW.
Cisterna de Littoria: Railroads and fordable rivers cannot be implemented correctly yet.
Dabo: I think we can play Air Power as Artillery Bombard (as in Suomussalmi) but not as Barrage, as if required here.

What is the issue with scenarios designed by other than DOW employees?
If DOW have the right to publish it in a book, presumably they own the copyright?

Sorry, I don't have any details regarding the situation with "Kasserine Pass", "Battle of the Bridgehead" and "Po Valley", so I'm unable to address what the reasons may be.

I also got them all from both sides against human opponents.
I had most trouble at russian breakout. It is currently at 14 percent, and that is the most one sided from all official scenarios at this moment.
Now I need to play them all on their anniversary.

I've just completed winnning the 17 new scenarios from both sides.
Surprisingly the hardest scenarios took me the least time.
I left Lipovec, Russian Breakout, and Tenaru to last and took only 8 battles to win all 3 from both sides.
Now that this is done I'll have to find another challenge.

My German engineers have never had difficulty clearing them. Remember that they can't move 2 and clear mines, except on Infantry Assault.

Indeed! Also, don't forget that for whatever reason, if the Engineer can't battle, it can't clear the mine. I don't think this comes up in any official scenarios (though I might be wrong) but if you had Mines on a Forest Hex, the Engineer couldn't clear the Mine before it blew up since a unit can't battle on the turn they enter terrain.
