High Stakes at Bruyeres & Urban combat cards Thu, 07 March 2013 08:12
Im looking at hosting this scenario this weekend with 7 others but when I was reading through the rules for it I noticed it lists the use of the urban combat cards, but there dosn't seem to be that many town hexes in the scenario. So my question is dose it work well with the combat cards?

If you read the Conditions of Victory for this scenario you will see that the battle has medal objectives based on the possession of the town hexes. Since the urban combat cards are focused on that type of battle, I would imagine that they are extremely important in the flow of that scenario. Richard Borg intended for them to be used or he would not have put them in the rules. Those two points should count for something.

I would play it as written.

Conditions of Victory:
12 Medals.

The 8 town hexes of Bruyeres and 3 surrounding town hexes form a 11 hex Turn Start Temporary Majority Medal Objective worth 2 Medals for whoever controls the most hexes.

I did notice the rules regarding the town hexes as medal objectives. Although lots of other sceanrios have the same types of rules that don't use the combat cards. The town hexes that form this area only really seem the effect one section of the map though.

I was just interested to get others thoughts / experiancese as the rules and info sheet that came with the cards suggest that they work well in scenarios that use lots of built up area hexes, such as in the maps from the swords of stalingrad map pack.

Though I was looking through the cards and it seems that alot of them can be used without needing to be near a town hex. Although the card that allows deployment of the tank unit can not be used as the hex it relates to dose not exist, so will have to remove it from the deck or only allow it to be used for its street fight ablity (can remember if it can be though, dont have it in front of me)

Well i was planning to play the scenario as written so I will beable to report back after Saturday night on how it went.

Hello,

our game group has played this scenario, and I must say that, the Combat Cards were decisive for the outcome of the battle.

As Steves said, go ahead and play the scenario as per written in the Special Rules. You won't regret. Trust me.

Cheers

We played this yesterday and found that only the US Right commander and German Left command had any use for the cards (where the cluster of towns are) the other 4 commanders didn't really find a use for the cards at all. From memory only 1 cards was played for the other 4 and that was only for the street fight ability.

The Scenario is very good though and 2 commanders found a use for the cards, the other 4 were left a little disappointed on the combat card side of things.
