Day one of the Open de France Memoir '44 tournament is over and day two is about to start. Best of luck to all of our French and European brothers and sisters who were able to attend!

We look forward to seeing more pictures, but here are a few if you're interested:

There are 2 very interesting images in that set Jesse.

One that has a very "official" looking "Overthrough"logo and another which has a deep overlord desert map which looks like the "Overthrough" map in question.

Coming soon????

I saw the Overthrough Icon as well, but I'm not sure which desert map you're looking at. Looks interesting.

I wish I could be there because it looks like a very cool event! Sadly I'm usually teaching at that time of year but maybe some day I'll make it out for one. Smile

The one with a lady and a man rolling up a paper map in front of some black and whiteish paintings. Looks like "Cpature of Tobruk" but are deeper than nine hexes if you look at the road.

Ah, good catch. Maybe some of our French brothers who were able to attend the Open de France will be able to tell us more once the dust settles. Cool

Ummm, Overthrough! Maybe they are testing a new upcoming format for the 10th anniversary of Memoir'44? Rolling Eyes

Are we having access to those scenarios like we had in the past years? Very Happy

I'm sure DoW will release the scenarios for everyone the same as they have other years, but I would also imagine it will take them a little longer than other years with as much as they have going on...the huge Kickstarter project for Small World has got to be taking lots of their time along with anything else they are working on!

The map they are rolling up is only printed on one side, so maybe it's a prototype.

I guess "Overthrough" is DOW's official wording for what we know as "Breaklord". Using Over in the format markes it clearer as an Overlord variant.

If the map in question is a prototype, I hope DOW drops the cards on the bottom because that would make the map just overly wide. I hope any,if we get any, Overthrough maps stays only as deep as Brekthrough maps are and don't add a row of cards on the bottom.
Those reference-cards could be offered as a Playeraid on a A4/letter sized paper.

We are in the vicinity of El Alamain then. 2nd battle of El Alamain would be my guess.

How is this format played? I mean, what deck is used? Overlord with variations? Are there "on the move" units?

Eager to know more details, if they can be spoiled, of course.

Is it really correct that the Soviet side begins in the scenario "Paulus' Last Offensive", and that the Red Army Commissar rule is NOT in effect?

(I only ask this because we had some cases where details were accidentally changed or omitted when the maps were uploaded. If Jacques decided that the rules shall be as described, of course this is absolutely fine. My accolades to his tireless efforts for M44 and our community.)

Thanks again.

AAR:

Sunday 1430

Paulus Last Offensive

v

Grebansky

1st game as Axis I came cloe, but made a mistake towards the end with a recon on force where I resolved combat on the right forgetting to move on my left.

Did not quite get the victory after a good start.

Rematch was more in has favour

Result after 2 matchs:

W 0

2nd Match

Agordat

v

Sgt Welsh

Never played with Cavalary or Leaders before, so this was a new one on me.

However I adopted a strategy of playing them like Japanese that seemed to work quite well.

As the Italians I overun his two units on the right, then attacked on the left.

His armour retreated onto the hill, which would have been problematic for me had he stayed because I only got 1 die against it up there.

However he came down and fought and I was able to swarm it in the open, then send my leader in to capture the Brit HQ, then get ejected, thne take it back

Italian retreat ability came in very handy here.

Rematch as the Axis, he was not quite able to kill me off on my left and his leader was left without a retreat route and killed with my artillery.

Meanwhile my tank made inroads on the right

Result:

2 Wins

3rd Match, last of Saturday:

Mont Gargon

v

Hurletout

Never played with mortars either, but they looked like my kind of unit

As the Axis I was unable to kill many resistants as they kept retreating

As the Allies, well he played Assault Centre twice then infantry assault against my hand of Probes and Attacks

Lost 2

Sunday

4th Match

Casa Berardi

v

Monsieur B

Upon reflection and analysis I decide that Mortars and Machine guns are not in fact so much better than ordinary infantry thta they should dictate your game

So I decide not to let that happen

As the Axis I leave my dug in position and aggressively attack, then send my armour foward to wipe out his left

In the rematch I start with 4 cards on the left and 2 on the right.

So I sent out a wide sweeping move on the left and then took the objective with the leader through Infiltration

Match 5:

Motoyama

v

Zhivago

Japanese are well dispersed, so a concentrated charge is hard to setup.

However as Allies I was able to pick off his units and then use an Infiltration to take the majority objective for the win

As the Japanese, I was not able to set up a charge, so I lost

W 1
L1

Final result:

W 5
L 5

Finished 69 out of 100

Did not score well enough in the scenarios I lost to do better than that

However, considering that I was playing an unfamilar tournament format with special units I had not used before I am reasonably happy with that performance and I know I can do better

At some point later I will compare and contrast the 3 Grand Slam events

Hello Almilcar,

Sorry but not from my part, now.
You know that this overthrough was a gift for players of the Open de France 2013 by the FFM44.
It's a common decision of people of the FFM44 board to let them the priority to play this scenario at the moment.
Later, this scenario will be available to everybody, you can be sure, but not at present.

I hope you understand this decision. Confused

Yours,
