Online play with friends Tue, 06 August 2013 03:23
We can't seem to get an online gme to ever work. I have an ipad4, my friend Has an ipad mini. We can play the normal online game with a unanimous player but not a private game between the two of us. Is there a step by step tutorial? We've tried everything.

A friend and I were battling this same problem tonight as well. We finally figured out how to get a private game to launch, but I'm pretty unimpressed with the way this is designed, if it is indeed operating as designed:

Player 1 selects the Game Center tab in Online, selects Player 2's name and invites them to a game. On the next screen, Player 1 has to press start before the invite is actually sent. Now here's the key: when Player 2 gets a notification of the game invite popping up briefly at the top of his device, he must tap on that notification before it disappears! If Player 2 does so in time, then a screen pops up that shows the two players and their connection status, until both are listed as connected and the game can start. But if Player 2 doesn't click on the notification bar before it vanishes, there appears to be no place within the game itself to accept a multiplayer invite! Clicking on the notification itself is the ONLY way.

If this is really how it was designed to work, then whoever came up with the design ought to seriously rethink their vocation.

I know - however this was designed, it's really bad. Invites don't show up in Game Center to accept, nor do they show up in the app itself to accept. Like the previous poster said, you HAVE to tap the notification in time (and make sure you have them on for GameCenter in Settings) in order to accept it. And it seems like, for me anyway, it only works about 50% of the time... sometimes you tap the banner and it doesn't do anything. Especially if the app isn't open at the time. Also there's no way I can tell to play asynchronously - like, accepting a game and playing turn-by-turn NOT in real time. Don't get me wrong, I love that I can play remote with someone (when it decided to actually work), but you SHOULD be able to play non-real-time.
