Scenarios for Hobart's Funnies / Churchill Tanks Mon, 30 December 2013 20:37
We got the Equipment Pack this week. I just looked through old threads and didn't see any that discuss this.

There seems to be only 2 scenarios that use Hobart's Funnies, and none in the Bonus Scenarios book.

-Le Havre, 5HF/5arm and

-Operation Epson (BT) 4HF/8arm.

I was hoping for some more, since that seemed to be one of the new units for buying the EP.

I guess we could go back and revisit old scenarios with Funnies as a variant. I searched and found some. I don't advise replacing all tanks with Funnies; maybe just 1 if Allies have the advantage.

-Gold Beach, 59% Allies; add Bobbin and/or Petard Mortar to #/3 tanks.
I suppose it would be easier to kill the Center artillery if you could destroy the bunker first!

-Hill 112 (CB#1), 63% Allies, #/6 tanks.
No Funnies seem to fit this scenario. Maybe you could add a Flame-Thrower tank?
I like the idea of the tank that could tear into the hedgerows. Maybe you could say a Bobbin treats hedgerows like forests?

-Breakthrough to the Beach (BT), 22% Allies, #/4 tanks.
It was never explained whether the armor that can remove mines had Flame-Thrower badges just to distinguish them, or whether they were flame-thrower tanks that could also remove mines. Now I'll just play them as Funnies: either Bobbin, Mine Digger, or Petard Mortar.

-Coldstream Hill (BT), 74% Allies. #/8.
Keep 2 F-T tanks or change them to Mine Digger Funnies.

Some more scenarios could be used with Funnies, even though they don't mention them and don't have British forces.

-Schwammenauel Dam, 56% Allies. #/2.
I played this with 2 Fascines, so they could cross the fords, but they didn't get out from behind the mountains.

-Valkenswaard, 52% Allies, #/4.
Bobbins ignore movement restrictions of beaches, marsh, and wire, so you could extend that to flooded fields (or rice paddies?)

I don't have a good scenario for Assault Bridge Funnies.
-Clervaux the Road to Bastogne, with Pontoon Bridge rules, is only 30% Allies, so helping the Germans by giving them a Funnies is questionable.

I've played some scenarios where the existing bridge is a real choke-point, but don't recall now. An Assault Bridge Funnies could help in this situation.

There's not many scenarios with trenches and I can't recall official ones in Western Front or Mediterranean with trenches for the Fascines to get some advantage.

I may post again after I try some of these out.

A bit off-topic, but I really enjoy using HFs. Whether it's digging mines or rolling over several wires, it just makes me feel so good... Am I the only one getting huge satisfaction for so little effort? And blowing up a bunker, that's great fun, I would like doing it more often in official scenarios. Indeed, it would be cool if HFs could make their way into (upcoming expansion's) new scenarios.

PS. I think the main idea behind Equipment Pack was to combine community requests (something for the minor nations + moar minis) and reduce the amount of badges needed to setup a scenario, in which EP succeeded fairly well.

Strangely I still use the Sniper badges with the EP sniper models. Practically because the badges identify the Nation but also they are some of the best looking badges! Wink

I used Assault-Bridge Funnies in Operation Epson. I didn't think I'd be going Right or I'd have got a mine-digger Funnies.

I played Gold Beach, with BCF rules and 1 Funnies. My opponent chose Bobbin but never got it off the beach. I chose Petard Mortar, and he missed my lone-fig tank, so the star on my Battle Back blew up the artillery bunker! Unfortunately, I rolled 3 flags on the next turn so lone-fig artillery escaped.

We played Alpha Yellow as part of the Audie Murphy campaign so my Allies got the destroyer. I used the 3-boat in battleship on a cardboard, which is the right size, and can hold 3 red pegs for hits!

Next we played Quarry of Cleury in the campaign. As a bonus, Axis got an extra sniper, so we used 3 sniper figures.

Hi all,

Some times ago, I have adapted two of my Overlord scenarios with Hobart Funnies : Juno Beach (1st part of the Juno Overlord Campaign) and Gold Beach Overlord.
For fun.

A few months ago, I did a breakthrough scenario that had Hobart's Funnies in it.
