My own expansion Sun, 16 March 2014 00:05
Hi everyone ! I just wanted to introduce you to some ideas I imagined, tested and printed (thanks to a guy on the French topic, see below), and I wanted to know what you thought of it. All of them are seemingly balanced :

Mermaids (6) : you score one bonus VP for each coastal region occupied by an active enemy that is adjacent to at least one of your coastal regions from the same shore. You can score VPs from immune active regions as well. Scoring bonuses this way doesn't interfere with powers like Diplomat.

The drawing (made by Denebula74, I do not own anything, all the credit's for him) is here :

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74191669/Sirenes_print_B laxnlion_v2.png

Sphinxes (6) : the player that wants to invade one of your regions tosses the die. If he/she gets a blank side, he/she cannot invade it and he/she has to leave one of his/her tokens in there, which can no longer be used for attack this turn. The tokens lost this way are given back at the end of the current player's turn for redeployment. If the side is not blank, the region can be invaded normally. For a last conquest, the die has to be thrown twice, once for the power to be applied or not, one for the conquest to succeed or not. Barbarians wasted this way cannot be redeployed and have to be taken off the board. A player that had to deploy a token in a Sphinx region is not considered to occupy it and therefore use it for adjacent conquest purposes.

Drawing (by Denebula again) :

Still no drawings for these though :

Yetis (6) : you can conquer a Mountain with two less tokens than necessary. At least one Yeti is still required.

And powers :

Neurotic (4, inspired by Kryzen) : you earn three extra Victory Points at the end of your turn if you hold at most two different kinds of regions.

Cartographer (3) : at the end of your turn, get one bonus Victory Point for every kind of region you hold.

Scavenger (5) : when in decline, each time you, or someone, abandon(s) a region that is adjacent to your Scavenger race, place one race token there, provided that there are some left. Priestesses can be placed like any other race, not minding their special Ivory Tower ability.

Wrecker (5) : if a player kicks you out of a region your Wrecker race was holding, first let the token you have to discard on it. When this player counts his/her victory points, the regions where those tokens are found aren't worth anything (they count for powers such as Imperial, however). Then dispose of it at last. (the Pots of gold from Wrecker Leprechauns are lost for everybody).

Cartographer is really nice, something simple and clean enough i would imagine to be in the base game itself. Placing it at a (3) is well considered.

Also, I like Scavenger a lot as there does seem to be a lack of in decline powers. Would work very well with your next race which you could strategically place next to your in Decline Regions... Or indeed against a rampant skeleton player who constantly abandons!

Wrecker ? I have trouble understanding the English of this but my basic understanding of it seems quite good. Basically an opponent would get no Victory Coins for conquering the Wrecker Race?

Would combine very nicely with bullied races such as Priestesses and white ladies. I like a lot.

Overall this happens to be one of the best expansions i have seen for a while. On par with any Days of Wonder output. Trez Bien!

Edit: I should say that i really like the design of the Spinx's and Mermaids too. Neurotic doesn't do much for me though!

I just checked and it seems that a word for "Saboteur" in English, is Saboteur itself. Does it appear clearer to you ? Because I never had the opportunity to see this word in English. I meant that the race will never let an ennemy that invades it valuable regions, they will destroy everything that is worth scoring VPs. Like Corrupt, but with one more token and the VP the player 'loses' is not yours but put back in the tray.

Neurotic can look discouraging and not interesting, that's what I thought too. But if you manage your race well, you can abandon a minimum of region and yet get 3 VPs per turn, it worked wonderfully for the very few times I tried it ^^

Oh, sorry about that. When you lose a region, your enemy cannot score any VP from the region he/she took from you, just for this turn. To rememeber which are the sabotaged regions at the end of his/her turn, leave a token in each of these regions before loosing them.

Yah that is what i thought. I like how it goes against the commonly played Skeleton and Orc Aggro strategies..

It is a nice defensive power which will allow you to freely spread out. With that in mind though it can be seen to be similar to Corrupt in that they both dissuade against your conquest. Corrupt may even be more effective at that!

Yeah, but a sabotaged region's value drops to zero, no matter what the bonus(es) are. And +1 for attack and defense ^^

oh yes, i only meant that in play it will act a lot like Corrupt. No one will want to attack you unless they really, really have to. And then they would probably not!
