PPB Deveric - GANG TuS Tenniskasi

USA

Sunday, 6th of April, 9pm cest

Deveric informed me via pm, he wasn't able to play yesterday. As this match isn't important for the clash, I'm not sure, if we play it later.

US-Map

BTB pegaso - GANG TuS Tenniskasi 1:5

1. SAULT-OKLA, KAN-HOU (TO-MI), 6 lokos, Peres start

Pere starts early with 6 orange and 6 black without using a loko. With this start I think my chances to win a just alive, when I'm able to block him one tic. I hope for 21 and play 6 pink with 2 lokos, Pere 3 red to CHI. Me 4 green HEL-DEN, hoping to see, how he connects his 6 black to have an idea of his tix (with 4 pink, chances for the 21-biggie sinks). Pere plays 6 yellow and 4 pink. Ok, no biggie, nothing to block I guess Sad. With 42 cards I have now 6 white, 4 blue, 4 red, 5 yellow, 3 black, 5 orange, 1 more green and 4 lokos. If I could draw an orange and a green, I can finish in 9, but nothing open. I draw blind and find: 1 orange and 1 green!!! Ok, how to play that? First 6 orange on grey, pere draws and 3 red LA-PHO. Now or never: 4 lokos+2 green ELP-HOU! Pere seems to see my route and wants to save his whites to avoid this 44 in 9 with 6 white and plays 2 DEN-SANTAFE. No problem, cause I have flexible 4 blue for this track, he gets slower this way and I get longest anyway. Me 6 white, Pere HEL-CAL, me 4 blue HEL-WINNI, 6 out for me now, Pere fills his hand, me 4 red DEN-OKLA and 5 yellow, Pere 4 blue CHI-OMA, me 3 black SAULT-DUL, Pere 5 white, longest for me by 1 and good points on the board. I win if he does not have 16 or if he has 4. Hm, the 2er DEN-SANTA, because he had CHI-SANTA? I decide not to draw and lose against LA-CHI and DUL-ELP Sad.

112:109

2. VAN-MON, CHI-SF (TO-MI), 5 lokos, my start

My start, easy game, cause I had 6 orange and 4+2 yellow on the board early and 5 pink, 5 black and 3 lokos left on hand. Pere 4+2 orange on grey, me 5+1 pink, Pere decides to block my way TO-PI. Me 5 black to force him to decide to connect his 6er grey or needs MON or BO (TO-MI was my third).Pere decides to block NY with 3 blue, me 2 SAULT-TO, what gives me good chances to make both tix AND get longest with Peres 6er outside. Pere NY-PI. I connect VAN, 4 green, the 2er to SANTAFE, 4 CAL-HEL to save the loop, 4 white TO-CHI and 4 SEA-CAL, while he connects BO-MI and MON-NO and tries to find more tix and fails with CHI-NO and SAULT-NASH.

76:127

3. MON-ATL, NY-ATL (DuL-HOU), 7 lokos, Peres start

Lokogod stays at my side, I early have 7 lokos and can take my colours open. So I can start with 5+1 orange and try to get some pink. Pere lays 6 green. Having 5 pink by taking them open, Pere lays 5+1 pink Sad. Hm, just a block or does he need them? Can I get enough points with a 43 in 10 against his start? I decide to try that, play 5+1 red on grey and 6 white, have luck with the open colours to save my other 5 lokos for 10 yellow, finding the black and the blue I need open, while Pere plays the 2er HOU-NO, 6 black and 3 yellow to SANF. Me 3 blue and 2 green NY-PI, Pere 5 blue, me the 1 ATL-NASH. Against 37, my hand is too bad, but against allother combis, there's a good chance. Pere 2 up to Raleigh! Looks good for me now. I connect 4 yellow, 4 of my 5 pink on SEA-CAL and 5lokos+1yellow for a 43, while he connects slow to TO, having SANFR-ATL, DUL-ELP. BREAK!

109:117

4. LA-CHI, MON-ATL (BO-MI), 7 lokos, my start

Ok, difficult to defend my break with this combi. But Lokogod is still by my side and gives me again 7 lokos. Having small yellow and black, I decide to draw yellow open, but surprisingly Pere can start early with 5+1 yellow. I have 8 oranges. He most likely cannot play them, but without them, my chances sinks under the ground. So I play 6 orange. To avoid an easy biggie in the north, I lay 5+1 yellow on grey. Pere 4 red SEA-CAL. We both draw colours. I'm not sure about the order, but after some more moves, he had 3 pink HEL-SLC and 6 black Sad, me 4 green. I took 1 open yellow and a nineth orange to perhaps have a chance to block his connection to the 6 blacks. I find a route in 11 moves with a loop via 6 pink, finishing in 43 with 4 blue on omaha, where I can lay a 44th with my 12th to KAN, but is that realistic against West with just having done 1 tic? Ok, lets see. 3 orange LA-PHO (not happy about the color, cause VEGAS is now more difficult to block, if needed). Pere 5 white DEN-PHO!!!! Ok, is he able to play 5 oranges???? We'll see, I block 3 red SLC-DEN, now let's see. He draws open red. I block SANF-LA with 2 lokos and 1 yellow. Pere 4 pink DEN-OMA. Puhhh, can he play the way via VEGAS? I had 9 orange, now 2 lying open. I HAVE to block him, without theres no chance, so all my 5 lokos on 5 red HEL-OMA. He plays 5 green SANFR-PORT, me 5 white SANF-ATL, knowing I have just 3 blue, no red anymore, Pere 6 blue, me the open loko, Pere finishes with HEL-CAL, what gives him longest and I connect my 16. I have luck, he does not have CAL-SLC, he has both PHO, PORT-PHO and CAL-PHO not done, perfect, I win

77:83

5. SEA-NY, CAL-PHO (WIN-HOU), 2 lokos, Peres start

Ok lokogod needs a break and wants to see Peres Tix. He starts early with 6 orange, me 5+1 of my 2 lokos on yellow. My flexibility is very small with my colours, just 3 blue, just a few pink. To be sure to reach CHI, I play 4 green HEL-DEN, Pere 6 green with 4 lokos!!!!! Ok, he MUST have something in the middle. Me 4 pink, Pere 3 pink HEL-SLC. I have to think long about my chances to make my biggie. To let him connect with 7 red and 5 yellow seems to easy, but I need my colours to stay flexible. I decide to block SLC-DEN and in case of need his way via LA by sacrificing my 6 blacks. But Pere plays 1 OMA-KAN??? Very slow. Ok, perhaps he has 16 and needs 4 blue. That would end all my hopes for my 22. Me 4 blue. Now Pere starts to block, 3 black CHI-PI. Hm, which way round? No more blue on hand, just 1 loko, 5 white, 3 green, 6 black, 4 orange, 2 red....
I decide to take 2 white down to St-L, perhaps he blocks NASH, but he is fixed on NY and blocks 2 white NY-PI. Again I think about giving up 22 and play 13, but I have to make him block, if he has time to make his tix, +13-20 is not enough. I draw some more cards, while Pere decided to kill my way VIA MON by playing 3+1 white TO-CHI. OK, he has no white and no green anymore. His lokos can not be enough to block 5 green, I'm sure I'm through with another loko, I take open. My plan: 2 black NY-WASH, Pere blocks WASH-PI, me WASH-RALEIGH, Pere blocks RALEIGH-PI, me 3 black to NASH, Pere blocks ST.L-NASH, me 2 STL-LITTLER, if Pere con block LITTLER-NASH with 3 lokos, me 4 oranges NO-ATL. As he couldnt have 3 more lokos for 3 green I would have been through. I just have to get 2 black NY-WASH. He doesn't block this connection, so I start with 2 black there. But Pere doesn't block???? Why the hell did I prepare my way that long??? Pere plays 6 blue PORT-SLC. Me WASH-PI, Pere 3 yellow LA-SF, me 3+2 lokos to fullfill my 22 and now try to make 13. Pere 5 pink SF-PORT, me 4 oranges SEA-CAL, Pere finishes too early with 4 CAL-HEL. Hm, he just can have done 1, he MUST have a middle-tic! Longest is mine, so 4 black somewhere and he his last 1 PORT-SEA. He had SEA-LA, DUL-HOU, I win

86:89

6. DEN-PI, DEN-ELP(???forgotten Sad ), 5 lokos, my start

GRRRRRR, orange is gone, when I got my 5th having 4 lokos, the right moment although I didn't draw them open. Me 5+1 orange on grey. After that I'm again not sure of the order. As I remember right, Pere plays 4+2 yellow, me 6 white, I try to get many reds to be flexible for my way down, but Pere take 2 open, when I had 5. Ok, lets hope, I get 4 green. Me 4 blue CAL-HEL, Pere 4 pink, looks like a fast end, if I let him, so 4+2 black on LA-ELP! Goal! He 3 LA-PHO, me 4 green, not sure about the order here again, but Pere gets 6 green and connects them. Wow, with start I perhaps can make longest with a 43, but needing 45 cards. I connect via 4 red and 5 yellow, having 4 pink, 1 green, 1 red, 1 loko on hand, but nothing open. I draw blind and as in the first game I have luck. A 2nd to 1 of my singles and a fifth pink! I play SAULT-TO, while Pere plays 4 blue, 5 white, me another open loko, Pere decides to give up longest totally by playing 5 red to connect his north6ers, me 2 to PI first, cause Pere just has 2 on his hand, with which he could have the bad idea to block TO-PI, he draws tix, me 6 pink, he 2 DEN-SANTAFE, and I win against LA-CHI, DUL-HOU, KAN-HOU, which he drew but not played with his last move, but wouldn't have changed a lot.

108:120

Lokogod and twice colourgod in last moves helped to win this closer game as the result makes the readers believe. Always games in first-class atmosphere against u Pere, thx for ur commendation after first game, that I lost, and the clash. I had good conditions and luckily a good day to use them. Looking forward to more of those games against u.

TAG FINAL

BTB Cromze/ommie vs GANG dea/Hecki : 6-0

Game 1: Cromze= port pho/den paso, ommie= cal slc/den pitt, dea= sea ny/dul hou, Hecki= tor mia/mon atl

dea very quickly gets 6 yellow, 6 orange, 6 pink and hecki gets 6 red. Nothing we can do about dea's obvious sea ny as our colors were very poor early on. Cromze gets 6 blue, and I take 6 grey and 6 white. We decide to focus on track points and longest for Cromze. We wonder about dea possibly having dal ny as she connects 2 stl and 2 stl chi. I connect down to slc and over to pitt with 5 green. Hecki is too slow for longest, I get 6 black for track points and longest for Cromze. Score = 208-196

Game 2: Cromze= dul hou/kc hou, ommie= mon atl/ny atl, dea= port pho/hel la, Hecki= sea ny/por nash

Hecki starts 6 orange, Cromze 6 green, dea 3 la pho, and me 6 pink. Hecki 6 blue, dea pho paso, and me 6 grey. So...hecki has port nash. I lay 4 yellow, but we don't have cromze lay 2 to nash...more me misunderstanding that he doesn't have green or white. So hecki's 1st tic is safe. dea connests up west to seattle and takes 6 yellow. Cromze takes 6 black, then connects up through the middle. Hecki connects 1 port sea, and for some reason I don't have cromze block ny with me as I need it anyway. Big tix for hecki, no longest for cromze and we don't quite know what dea's 2nd tic is...3 to paso was a little confusing. I have 6 white and 4 to sea and need to get longest. Hecki blocks my clean loop through montreal, so i need to loop around nashville. Gangsters block me raleigh atl, so I need an extra turn for 3 black. Cromze takes extra cards that he doesn't need and then ends with 6 red. I calculate (wrongly) points come down to us winning by 1 if dea has hel la as her 2nd, or a tie if she has sea la. With the 6 yellow and 3 to paso, I figure hel la is stronger bet and am correct. Not sure how I gave them 10 extra points. Score = 207- 196

Game 3: Cromze= tor mia/bos mia/mon no, ommie= van fe/den paso, dea= la chi/cal pho, Hecki= ssm nash/ssm ok

Hecki starts 6 grey and 6 pink early, dea gets 6 orange. Cromze and I both have a lot of red and blue, so he plays 2 tor pitts and then 4 yellow. Hecki lays 3 white and dea 1 nash atl. Cromze lays 2 atl and then 2 raleigh pitts without them blocking again. I lay 6 yellow, 6 blue and 4 hel cal. I have 1 loco in this game and cromze has 3 or 4. Cromze lays 5 blue and 3 tor mon. I lay 2 to fe and 2 to paso. dea gets 6 black and then 3 yellow la sf. We think about blocking 3 pink, but figure she has colors to go around. Cromze gets 6 red and wants 5 orange, but dea takes it with locos. dea connects up to cal with 4 blue and 6 white. Hecki connects with 4 black 4 white 5 green and 2 over to okc. I get 6 green and 3 to van. End of game = dea gives an extra turn so hecki can have 3 blue and 3 to pho for longest, but I also get longest looping with 4 pink and 4 black. Cromze tries for more track points. Points come down to us winning unless hecki has win lr. dea doesn't draw, so we win by 1! yipppeeeeeeeeeee! Score = 222-221

Three tag games in just over 90 minutes...now that's efficient! Thx for the exciting games, monsters!

0.00 CEST : the toilet is clogged. All the poop from the last days shows up, and overflows. After 45 minutes of cleaning without trying to throw up and of working with the plunger, i found out that baby threw a ball in the basin. Ball that happened to be flushed at some point.
House stink, I stink.

1.45 CEST : Done, I order a burger to make sure I have enough energy.
2.00 CEST : I fall asleep.
2.30 CEST : Burger wakes me up, I need to eat quickly and java needs an update.

2.40 CEST : Dea, Hecki, Truck, Cromze, Elka, ommie, onyx, GFF, Lucu are here, nice crowd.
I need at least a 4-2 win. Chris needs 2.5 points.

1st game - Swiss : Basel Brieg / Deutschland vs Deutschland + Italy 71 vs 103(my start)

I decide to lock the west early since I need and have 3 white.
I take 4 grey, 6 grey, alas for nothing It does not pay off, and Chris piled up the tunnels in the east.
He gets way more track points, longest.
He played better. 0-1

Joker#1 dead.

2nd game - Big Cities : Las Vegas/Ny - Nashville/Ny - Dallas NY vs Chi Ny/Chi Atl/Ny Atl/Bos Mia 105 vs 128 (his start)

Nice : 3 tickets for me, yay... And argh, he keeps 4 then lays 2 to NY after 10 cards. Already tricky for me.
I open 6 black, then 2 to Ny to avoid the full block.I get out through 5 green, but I need to go to Dallas and Nashville.
I happened to be too slow while he managed his colors pretty well. He drew tickets in the middle of the game and found NY Mia, then finishes way faster than me.
Outplayed here, 0-2... No jokers left

3rd game - USA : LA Ny Den Paso (Win Lr) vs Sea La Cal Phoe 122 vs 117 (my start)
Down 0-2, I guess I am more relaxed now.
My colors are pretty good. I open 6 orange, he 6 yellow.
I answer 4 green, and 6 black.
He plays La Phoe = west. I am short on yellow and purple, but I don't want to be slowed down around Phoe/Fe/Paso, so I pick 2 more cards blind and find 2 lucky yellow.
I can play 4 red, then 6 purple, and 4 white to Chi to be flexible around NY.
He goes to SF, then 6 white and 6 blue. He's fairly fast against the start while I need to reach NY.
He does not have 6 grey, and he goes to Paso with 3 purple then 4 red to Dallas... whew we tie longest.
It sounded like 3 pink to SF instead of 2 extra yellow + a loco would have allowed him to get 6 grey.

Puh : 1-2.

4th game - USA 1910 : Las Vegas Miami/LA Oaklahoma (Winni Santa Fe) vs Montreal Dallas Port Hou (SSM Mia) 134 vs 122 (his start)

Pretty tricky combo for me : I need black, Vegas and 6 red which are a bit more attractive in 1910 than in regular USA. My luck he ended up with a trickier combo.
Bad news I have 0 black/3 yellow/4 red at 38 cards but 6 locos. He burns 3 locos on orange, I give myself another pickup : 1 red, 1 black.
He plays 6 yellow, 6 purple, 1 to Port, 2 to Pitt, while i throw 5 locos on black, 2 to vegas and 6 red. I have 9 green, 3 are open on the pile = he has 0. I connect peacfully via NO.
No locos left, no 5 yellow to go to Oak, I might be too slow.
Guessing tickets in 1910 is pretty tricky. He goes down to Fe.
Phoenix Boston ? LA Atlanta ? Duluth Dallas ?
I have 3 of a kind to spare, so I choose LA. He then lays 1 to Hou. Argh Port Hou, Port Pitt ? That might be too big to compete against.
I realize that he's slower than I thought. He connects 3 to Montreal: Montreal Dallas ? Really ? Gives me a win instead of something close to a tie.
He draws (4 to find) and finds nothing.

Ayayay : 2-2. Stayin' aliveee

5th game - Asia : Peking Saigon/Chita Shanghai/Irkustk Dihua (Mos Cal) vs Kathmandu Calcutta/Astrakhan Hanoi 103 vs 45 (my start)

2 main objectives with my tickets : 2 red and 6 grey to get in the way of 4 of the 5 big tickets.
I open quickly with 2 red in Hanoi, my luck... He answers with 2 orange, and 2 black in Mandalay. I make sure I can connect to the north with 2 grey to Peking and 4 purple via Xian. We then complete our hand, and he goes to Bangkok. Either he tries to be sneaky to Hanoi or Singapore. I kill Hanoi with 2 white, I can still take care of Krasnoyarsk later.
He burns 2 black + a loco to Singapore. Ok, he tries to be flexible to reach Hanoi, no way you give up your black and then go to Krasnoyarsk.
It works well for me, I need Saigon anyway, and I can work on my number of cities connected.
I also lay 6 grey, then connect Irkustk, Chita and Shanghai.
Thanks locos for your contribution

He can not complete his big ticket.
3-2 The show must go on.

6th game - Europe : Pal Mos Berlin Buc (Paris Zag/Zur Brind) vs Stock Wien/Bruxelles Danzig (I can only Imagine Ed Ath as a big ticket) 128 vs 99 (his start)

Nice tickets for me. I have 7 locos at 36/38 cards, I decide to be patient and keep my options open. (It looked like he had only 2 or 3 locos)
We are actually both patient. He shoots first with the 8-tunnel with red : 1 red and 2 locos = miss.
He probably needs it, he's been waiting too long. I go for it, with 6 orange and locos, and pay 2 extra.
I am now down to 3 locos, and 2 of them are needed for the ferry.
He takes the 6 tunnel, and I take War-Kiev then 4 to Berlin.
He locks Petrograd with 4 grey, 4 blue and 4 white, while I go peacefully to Kharkov then Moskva.
He also blocks Frankfurt with 3 black. He looks pretty defensive, I feel confident. I go to Bucuresti, and decide to wait one more turn before claiming the 6 ferry to optimise my hand.
He takes Pal Smyrna. I am not too worried, he does not have a big ticket nor he can compete for longest. I connect via Sofia/Athina, then can go to Palermo with my remaining locos.

He connects his tickets, lays a station in Petrograd.

I clearly had better tix and a better hand in this one.

4-2.

chris vs Sysy :
2 vs 4

It was our third final in 3 years, I am happy for my loyal teammates that we finally get the final win Smile
Your motivation and team spirit are rewarded !

Thanks GANG for the hard fight, with a crazy scenario (5-1,0-6,5-1,2-4) !

Grats BTB and also grats GANG for a very good fight - the closest decision I have ever seen, one lousy point in the last TAG decided about win or loss, crazy!!! Razz

MANY THX AND GRATS TO MY BTB TEAMMATES!!!

This tourney was enjoyable for many reasons:

1. My team kicked the ttr villains (aka Will & GSV) for the 2nd time this year...yessssssssssss....mwahahahaha! Twisted Evil

2. 'Unlucky ommie' got revenge on 'loco-dea' and dea will continue to have sleepless nights over that one 'lousy' point... Twisted Evil

3. I didn't have to be in the lineup each week, nor did each of my teammates! One of the best aspects of our team is that our lineup is different each week and we can win with almost any lineup we put out! Very Happy

4. I tried something new and played AAT twice - both fun matches. Last year we taught Cromze how to play tag and this year we taught elka. Who's next? Laughing

Thx to the GANGsters for a close, entertaining finale! And also to all who participated this year...the more the better!!

Grats again, BTB, and thx for the good atmosphere during the finals. Very strong play in the TAG made the difference and a good comeback by Sysy, who also did an good job in the previous rounds.

And thanks to dea, Hecki, Kasi and Chris for all the good skype discussions and the competitive setting.

If anything, I hope we've given Kasi the final push and we will see him on the Europe and Asia maps soon.

ok, well ... but let me state it
this year it still should stay unrated

FINAL - pegaso and kasi - USA - first match
and - it was one important point, that Pere could catch

dream-TAG-team ommie and Cromze went out ... and BANG
beat with 6-0 dea- and Hecki-monsters of GANG

Val didn't want to steel our Captain the show
and just won one important game in the end of EU row

In the middle of European night
Sysy and Chris scheduled their AAT-fight

and ... not letting spectators too early go ...
decission was open till last game - WHAT A SHOW!!!

12 - 12 = number of points are the same
but BTB won the important TAG game

thx participants, opponents and organisators for a great tournament
where BTB could win first title in the end

and if you think my rhyming was a tie
I'm happy - thank you - and bye bye Smile

Many thanks and grats to my team-mates.
I really enjoyed being part of BTB again. Thx also for "forcing" me into TAG Wink - really nice experience
(sorry ... out of rhymes now ... I guess it took me at least as long as it takes kasi to play an USA-match Laughing)
