Highwayman Wed, 05 February 2003 23:24
The winner of the Highwayman auction takes one stone from any player who bid zero. If all players bid at least one gold, he may take one common gold from the lowest bidder. If the lowest bidder has no common gold, he must give up all silver!
If there is a tie for the lowest bidder, the Highwayman robs both!
note: If a player(s) bids nothing and has no stones to give up, he pays nothing.

The winner of this auction gets to choose a player with more victory points and prevent him from bidding next auction unless he pays the Hag one gold, or the Hag can take four silver from the bank. If the Hag was the last auction, then take four silver from the bank.

Tax Collector ( another one? ) Sat, 08 February 2003 03:44
The winner of the Tax Collector auction avoids having to pay the bank one silver coin. All other players must. If you have no silver left, you must bribe the tax collector ( winning bidder ) with one of your stones.

You know what they say about death and taxes...

Hey, my first post here! This could be called the Brute, Thug or Bouncer I suppose..

The winner of the Ogre auction is considered to have bid an additional 3 gold on the next auction this turn. If this is the last auction of the turn the winner instead recieves 3 silver coins.

Losers of the Astrologer bid must secretly choose 1-3 stones from the bank ( use bag ). The Astrologer chooses any player and predicts the amount of stones in that player's fist. If he is correct he keeps the stones and moves on to the next player. As soon as the Astrologer misses a prediction all remaining stones are returned to the bank.

For the rest of this turn, any players can agree to combine their fist with the winner of this auction. If the combined fist wins the auction, the winner of this auction wins the character

for the rest of this round all players roll their VP die after revealing their fists. they then must, if able, add the corrosponding amount of gold to their bets.
The Winner can pay 2 gold to nullify this effect. If there's a tie, either can.

Note: the VP die bieng rolled does not in any wayu affect VP totals.

The winner of the Black Dragon forces the second highest bidder to do one of these things: ( roll a scoring die )
0: no effect
1: remove a stone ( Dragon's choice ) to bank
2: remove a common gold ( or fairy gold if no common ) and return to bank
3: lower one victory point ( cannot go below zero )

same rule for thief in the event of no other bidder

The winner of the Beastmaster auction gets to keep the card and use it for later auctions this turn. On any dragon or creature ( troll, goblin, etc. ) this card can be played after the bids are revealed to increase the value of your bid by one. After the card is used, it is discarded.

Contest entries - new system - PLEASE READ! Thu, 13 February 2003 19:22
Good news, there is a new system to enter your Dragonstones contest characters. We implemented a new database just for it!

This will help us tremendously to follow-up on the fabulous success of this contest (over 150 entries already!) Shocked

So, please stop posting your ideas on this forum. Go to http://www.dragonstones.com/index.php?t=contest instead. This new page is pretty easy to use. The top pop-up menu lets you choose between listing entries, reading the contest rules, or entering a new entry.

Let us know on support@daysofwonder.com if you have problems using it.

And thanks again to everyone for your participation. You are great players!

2 player variant idea? Any good? Sun, 06 July 2003 19:36
I have an idea for a 2 player variant.....
After an auction between 2 players is won....roll a 6 sided die.
If a 1 or 2 comes up..then that card is taken by the evil black wizard and discarded and noone gets that card...you still must
pay what you bid as per rules.

However, if you pay 1 (or 2? what do you think) Silver coins you
can prevent the black wizard from getting the card and the auction winner gets the card.

Any good?

It'd be nice if there was a Fist of Dragonstones strategy section, much as there are for Gang and QN.

I also think you might get better bang-for-your-buck if the strategy sections were better integrated with the online play. RIght now with it being a couple of clicks away, and no notification of new posts, I suspect most people don't see them.

Any chance of you guys... Mon, 12 July 2004 14:42
Is there any chance that you guys will print the five contest winning cards, and make it available for sale?
I printed them out, but it's not the same...you can always tell when the next "new" card is coming up.

I NEED to have the "Black Death" in my deck Twisted Evil

Also, I posted that before...how hard would it be to incorporate these five into the online game? I guess the Illusionist would be somewhat difficult Rolling Eyes

Or what about coming out with a bigger box edition, and a nice gameboard in it??? Not that you need it, I mean you don't need a board playing "Lost Cities" either, but it looks cool.

Or what about adding a few green stones to the bag that can be used as "any" color??

I don't know, just rambling about my favorite game...

Oh, btw, congrats on the "Spiel des Jahres" award. Hope the dough comes rolling in, so you guys can come out with more great games Very Happy

The winner of the card, may choose one or more player(at least one), to put thier stone into the bank and randomly pick the same number of stone from the bank.
He should name the player would be choosen.
Afterwards, those chose player will do the task in clockwise.

If the player he choose do not have a stone, he can randomly pick one stone from the bank. Surprised

I didn't understand how my brother-in-law could regularly draw five or six stones without going bust with the rainbow dragon card. Finally, he admitted that the different colored stones have different texture. It's not 100%, but he can guess the color of a stone in the bag by feel about 85% of the time.

I tried it, and dang, it's true.

We now have a rule that you have to grab stones out of the bag really quickly.

Problems playing... Sun, 16 July 2006 22:32
I finally found enough other players to play today... but twice ran into problems. Not sure if theye were server problems or problems at my end. First time it seemed to seize up one the first bid. Second time we got about halfway through the first round before seizing up. I got a "fatal error" message - something like socket reset by peer.

Apologies to those I was playing with if it was my computer or connection playing up.

I was just wondering which cards people think are the best in the game.

My thoughts, note that I sometimes forget the name so I give the effect instead.

Set #1: Always good cards! (in rough order)

1) Doppleganger
2) Red Coin card
3) Enchantress
4) Fairy Gold
5) The one that gives 3 gold
6) The one that gives 2 gold and 2 silver

Set #2: Often good cards

7) Sorc's apprentice
8 ) Quack
9) Necromancer
10) Witch
11) Sorc

Set #3: Not worth bidding on

12) Thief

..... where would you stick the other cards? What would you change? Which is your favourite card? Obviously, mine is the doppleganger Smile

Fictionaire - The Quiz Game with a Whiff of Truth! Wed, 30 June 2010 14:06
And now for something completely different...

Fictionaire is a new quiz card game from Days of Wonder that gives a fresh twist to the classic "dictionary game" genre

In Fictionaire, players make up a bogus definition or fake answer for a word or question asked by the game's host, trying to trick him or her into believing that their answer is correct. To earn points, players either choose the right definition - or get someone to pick their answer. If a player bluffs someone into choosing the wrong answer, they earn a bonus point.

Designed by Hervé Marly, the Fictionaire Game Series will include 4 differently themed card packs, each with 120 thought provoking questions. The first pack in the series, Classic Fictionaire, is closest to the traditional dictionary game - rare, interesting and sometimes provocative words, all begging for players to come up with creative definitions.

http://blog.daysofwonder.com/wp-content/dow-uploads/2010/06/classic-blanc-en.jpg

So what are you waiting for? Head over to the Fictionaire website and learn more about this game of inventive storytelling, trivia knowledge and supreme bluffing skills.

Fictionaire is designed for 4 to 7 players and will be available worldwide in both English and French language versions in early September 2010. The entire game series will be available to retailers in a free, counter-top display that contains 20 packs - 5 each of the 4 differently themed packs. The price of each deck of 120 questions is $10 and ¤8.
