First of all, welcome to the forum community!! It's great to have you here and I'm glad to see that you're enjoying Small World 2! I think you'll find that this is a very helpful and friendly online community full of great players.

Zippa wrote on Fri, 29 August 2014 12:21

I hear you marine, and you have some good points, but I know some of these players dodge certain players because they want to hold their rank and don't want to lose, but I'll be more careful accusing people of things...

As a community, it's also best if we don't try to 'name and shame' other players. Like AngryMarine said, there could be any number of reasons for players to decline invitations be we also don't want to be a divisive community who get into accusations or personal attacks against individual players. Not that you did that at all, but I've seen other forums that slide into 'calling players out' and it's not fun to be around.

It's understandable to be frustrated about not being able to get a game against an opponent you want to play, so good luck in your invitations. Cool

As Rasmussen said: Welcome to the forum.

When I read your post I don't feel like you want to participate in a tournament, but it feels more like you don't like it certain (high ranked) players don't want to compete against you and you feel they have to be forced to play. As stated above some players might not be able, or even want, to play against you or anybody else they don't know/like/etc.

Smal World is just a game (I can't believe I said that Embarassed ) so people can enjoy it anyway they want. They don't have to adhere or subject to what you or I think is decent behavior. I hope we all play for love of the game (and yes also to be our best and try to win)

Online tournaments
I don't think DoW will organise that, if you want that maybe organise your own?

I play Small World, but I am a more avid player of memoir 44 where there are several online tournaments to compete in. All organized by enthusiastic players like yourself.

Your format of wanting 16 or 32 players with a rating of above 1700 (or even 1750) seems doomed to fail in my opinion. There is only a very select group of about 50 players who manage that. And probably a lot of those 50 wouldn't be able to or want to play in a tournament. Also you are excluding more than 900 other players who might like to join.

I feel based on my experience with M44, that tournaments tend to draw the better players of a game who like stiff competition.

Ranking
I don't know how accurate the score is of Small World, I do know the score system used in M44 can cause your score to fluctuate madly over games. Also there are players who play more on the board than online who are formidable opponents despite a low ranking on-line. And I think looking at the list that playing more (t a decent level) gives you a higher ranking. This might be because you are getting better at it, but it might also be that more games rack up more points.

Personally
If I read your post correctly you would like to compete one on one for the tournament. I myself would then not compete. I feel Small World is agate best enjoyed with at least four player preferably more. Te game is about mayhem and destruction and too many races filling a too Small World. Which comes out best with many people on one board.

But other people might enjoy that very much, to each their ow way of enjoying Small World.

Good luck in your efforts much succes in the gam and remember to have fun! Cool

Maybe take a look at the grand campaign rules. Longer campaigns are divided in smaller chunks, ams makes the later campaign more dynamic and give more tension till the end.

Add played this scenario tonight, Anna got stuck with the entry points:

1. Is opponent allowed to stand on an entry hex ?
2. What happens when the opponents is on the entry hex and axis player wants to use this entry point ?

The rules are not clear here, unless we missed a thing

I don't see why not, its a good tactic, after all one of the Paras roles was to block reinforcements making it to the beach.

Then you need to get them off the entry hex so that it is freed up.
IMO this is just another tactic the Allies can use to disrupt the Axis reinforcements.

Rules seem pretty clear, you have to deploy reinforcements on an entry hex, since the base rules don't allow units to move through or occupy the same hex as an enemy or friendly unit then you cant use the occupied entry hex.

Don't try and read into the rules too much just use what is there.

At the end of the day there are 10 hexes that Axis reinforcements can be deployed on in sword beach, so I think it would be very rear that all would be occupied.

If I am playing this scenario by itself apart from any other map, I know that the Germans can bring REINFORCEMENT troops in from their RIGHT flank and baseline as the roads are clearly marked with a GREEN Enter marker. However, there are two other roads entering from the LEFT flank. Are these not entry points because they are not marked OR may I use them as entry points as well?

Correct. If there isn't an Entry marker, you can't bring units in. There aren't 'missing' tokens on the map anywhere.

To answer the question about occupied entry hexes...if there is a unit of any kind on the hex then reinforcements cannot enter the board there! Keep those lanes open!!

Have fun, everyone! Cool

I just read an extraordinary story about some photos apparently taken by someone connected with Salua Air Force Base, an American base in India, in 1945 -- and the oddyssey of a husband and wife today trying to figure them out. (The couple's son is a friend of mine.)

Some of you WW2 history buffs here might find it interesting, and -- who knows -- maybe somebody will be able to point toward a piece of the puzzle.

This was mentioned a little while ago over in this thread: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?th=29814&start=0

I suspect that things won't change much, but Asmodee is lucky to be getting Memoir '44 along with Ticket to Ride! Cool

Anything is possible after an acquisiotion. Once the founders are out the door its up to Asmodee to continue as they see fit.

I suspect Ticket to Ride and Small World are the two largest grossing titles, with Memior third. I warrant that online makes little profit, but is an avenue to more board game sales. What that means is anyones guess, except the CFO and his minions.

One would think Memoir is profitable. Even if its not, there are scads of scenarios to keep one busy until dooms day.

You have to wonder why the sale was made. Either the founders are tired of this great business and want to move on, or they just want to cash out. Other motives are possible, I suppose, such as spending more time with family (ahem) but they are said to be leaving in a bit so I cant imagine a continued financial involvement.

DragonsDream wrote on Sun, 20 July 2014 14:43

As my 13 year old Swedish nephew just started playing the game with us, I have been busy making many new races. Some are just variations on Giants' power (you may use one less token when attacking from a ___ you own) but my family kept asking me why mountains were the only ones like that.

Here are the ones we thought were more creative:

My nephew specifically requested a dinosaur race and suggested Raptors that got new tokens (which we call "Dudes") from eggs. So I created:
Rapters: During redeployment, place your 3 Raptor Eggs in regions you occupy. At the beginning of your next turn, pick up any eggs and take 1 token from the tray for each. Conquered Eggs are returned to your hand. (5/18)

My nephew's favorite game mechanic is getting new tokens, so we try to include as many of those type races as possible from the custom stuff available

Formians: Formians can enter anywhere on the board except Mountains. Place a Hive token on this spot. The Hive gives +1 defense and +1 VC even in decline. It is removed if conquered. While active, during the Ready Your Troops phase, if your hive is still on the board, take 2 extra tokens from the tray. If your hive is gone, discard 1 token to the tray.(5/18)

Saw this one elsewhere and tweaked it a bit.

Valkyries: Once Valkyries are chosen, the first of each race token killed is placed on the Valkyrie Banner (including the Valkyres themselves). When they go in decline, these tokens are sent to the tray and 2 VC per race are collected.(6/11) (my wife's family is Swedish, so some Nordic races were required)

Originally, it was just 1 VC, but even in a 5 player game, it just wasn't enough VCs to really be viable compared to Orcs or someone with Merchant or Pillaging. at 2, it's still not better than Merchant but better than Wealthy and if you keep them at least 3 turns, it can be on par with Alchemist. Hasn't been tested in less than a 5 player game though.

Gremlins: No defensive structures can be built/placed in regions adjacent to Gremlin occupied regions(7/12) (weak but conceptually fun and tends to be irritating. I would give them more dudes, but then they become Ratmen with a power)

Pharaohs: While active, every time a Pharaoh is sent to the tray, put a Pyramid token in one of your regions. Pyramids give +1 defense and +1 VC while active and +1 defense when you go in decline. They are removed if the region is conquered or abandoned (my nephew wanted Mummies but since they already exist in SWU, this was my way of including something Egyptian)

Ents/Treants: When an In Decline Treant occupied region is conquered, place a Shady Grove marker on the region. The Shady Grove gives +1 defense to the race occupying the region (and in all ways acts like a mountain token – can’t be moved, remains if the region is abandoned) but continues to score 1 VC for the Treants. The Shady Grove remains on the map until Treants are forced off the board.

I generally hate hate hate any custom race/power that involves sharing a region (in a 5 player game with 11 races on the board, seeing where you are is hard enough without worrying about being under someone else's token) and have avoided or rewritten any custom race that involves this mechanic. However, I liked this idea for Treants enough to create an easy to see mountain-sized Shady Grove token which makes the 2 races on a region idea work.

We have noticed after several plays that since we are family, we tend to play less aggressively (even apologizing when killing active tokens), so I have been designing races & powers that reward attacking active races more. For others, this approach may be unbalanced but it works for us. I am open to any feedback, comment or criticism for improving these.

How many tokens do the ents get?

Bon WE !

Malheur à mon futur adversaire Twisted Evil

JenAck - Lucullupus 1:5

Much better tickets for me in the games 1 to 4 (no Iberia as in many other matches), so an easy win. Thanks, Jasmin and good luck for NC! Smile

It seems that the setting is wrong.

1-2-3 must be the first of every group.
4-5-6 must be the second of every group

So should be:

1) CANNONADE (B1)
2) LOCA (D1)
3) LEXX (F1)
4) TCHOU PINETTE (A2)
5) YAELKA (C2)
6) SUPERPELLO (E2)

Let's wait for confirmation before start.
