If you have version 0.92 Tue, 01 June 2010 05:08
and you were one of the few players who experienced a crash with this version, please:

- update to the most receive version, v 0.99
- and if you still have a crash when using this new version, please try and help us reproduce it

To do so, please post the model of the iPad you are using (3G or Wifi only, RAM size,....) and also try and describe the circumstances under which your crash happened (ie while interacting with the app, in what phase of the game, etc...)

Thank you,

eric

Bonjour,

Est-il prévu d'ajouter un bouton "annuler" dans une future version, si on a joué trop vite et que l'on veut recommencer ?

Bug reports v1.0 Sun, 11 July 2010 13:19
I've noticed a couple of very minor bugs recently. Neither are critical, but thought I would let you know about them.

- Very small thing that only happens when you have berserk sorcerers. The die re-rolls after conversion. You can use this to your advantage by saving your conversion until you roll a blank. The last time I had this race I did this and then rolled a three after the conversion.

- Berserk rolls the die before deciding whether to go in decline or not. This can either make the decision to go into decline much easier or much harder. I was about to go into decline with my berserk amazons when I rolled a three, so decided to hang on for one more turn

Still loving every play of this game.

Cheers,
Shawn

After my ghouls have gone into decline, my next race - merchant orcs - are unable to go into decline. The button for declining my orcs never appears

HI DoW:

An enchancement would be, if there is already a fortress on each active land, during redeployment, don't offer a fortress that can't be placed.

Amazon replacement bug Sat, 14 August 2010 19:38
I encountered this bug when playing as Were-Amazons (which is awesome, by the way) in Small World iPad 1.1. What happened:

1) On that turn, I had used all but two of my Amazon tokens, so the game prompted me to return two to my hand

2) I started dragging one of the tokens on the map, changed my mind, and dropped it back in its original area

3) I then dragged two tokens from different areas off and hit the Done button

4) I received a victory coin for all of my lands except the one where I had moved the token in and out.

5) On my next turn, I declined. All of my tokens flipped except (once again) the token I had moved in and out, and I once more was not given a victory coin for the unflipped token.

I have not tried to duplicate the bug, but will let you know if I run into it again.

Lors du déclin, l'ipad s'est arrêté. Normalement 3 points auraient du être donnés.
Bonne chance. Super jeu !
J'ai acheté la version en boite de jeu.
Est-il possible de trouver les extensions?
Merci

iPad bug #2 Wed, 25 August 2010 22:52
I had another crash today. I was on turn five. I had Ghouls in decline and Orcs. The iPad Bot had Amazons. It's last turn was to attack a single Orc. It had to roll and it won the roll. So it removed my single Orc but then there was a blank space where the Orc was. I guess that might have been okay because it had to remove four.

But when it went to my turn, the game wouldn't allow me to play. I couldn't use my Ghouls, or even put my Orcs into decline so I had to quit with the home button.

Sad

To me, this is the weakesst point of the robot. It will never abandon any regions at the begining of each turn. However, this strategy is quite important to me, expecially when I choose Skeleton.

Please do add this ability to robot and make the game more interesting!

Bug:

When playing against the computer, if you go second, and you close the game before you finish, when resuming, the game snow upside down. Tipping the iPad rights the screen, but now the map remains upside down for the rest of the game.

Feature Request:

It would be nice if you could create a player instead of just typing in a name, and have win/loss stats tracked with that player (similar to the iPad Carcassonne game).

I don't have the physical game, so I don't know what the distribution on the die is. I was only able to find out via one of these forum messages that it has 3 blank sides. Also, once the game has started, it's not possible to read a description of your opponent's power & race, so as a beginner, it was frustrating to plan my strategy against the AI. Both of these are basically a documentation issue, and would go a long way to encourage beginning players.

Someone else has mentioned an undo feature, and I agree this is needed for reversing non-random moves. Too many times I have miss-dragged, or forgotten to do a decline at the end of my stout race's turn due to this.

Playing Alone with two players + update advices Wed, 23 March 2011 16:56
I m just wondering if someone else like enough smallwolrd like me for playing alone with two players. Usualy i play a lot with friends during my train trips but when i m alone i like to play like this. The goal is to make the best score as possible, currently m'y best is 230, what do you think about this?
The computer is not enough skill an update of the AI could be Nice, he never give up territoires, for exemple.

For the futur Update, is it possible to add a shuffle option for the choice of the peoples and powers at the begining of the party, when playing a lot like my friends and me, sometimes the set are so unbalanced That the winner is knowned béfore playing. In this case we had to quit the application to have a new set of people and power, a shuffle option could solve this problem.

What do you think about that?

Quelle semni deception quand je les ai ouverts: pas de versions on line alors que cela me paraissait une évidence!!

Du reste merci a DOW pour ces magnifique jeux de plateau... mais pour l'ipad j'y regarderais a deux foix.

Hill Gypsies score hill bonus on abandoned hills Mon, 06 June 2011 01:03
Hi,

I was playing will Hill Gypsies. On turn 1 I conquered four regions, including two hills, for 6 VP. Then on turn 2 I abandoned the first four regions and conquered three more, including two hills. I would have expected to receive 9 VP -- 3 regions, +4 abandoned, +2 hill -- but I received 11 VP. It seems the game gave me +4 hill VP, even though two of the hills were not occupied at turn's end.

I don't know if the same is true for Forest or Swamp Gypsies, but this seems like a scoring bug... unless I misunderstand the rule?

Your most one sided game Thu, 16 June 2011 13:31
I just played my most one sided game ever. I started out with bivouwaking (sp?) ghouls which allowed me to take the top left corner and leave it untouchable. The ai came in with fortified elves and took the bottom of the map. Inital score: 4 vs 6.

Round two kicked in and i went into decline again only giving me another 4 points. The elves continued to expand and increased their lead scoring another 8 points.

Round 3 I came in from the top left with my ghouls and flanked the elves on the right coming in from the bottom right with pillaging sorcerers. They converted a mountain elf and sealed the fate of the remaining elves.

The sorcerers continued to pillage the land eventually turning on the ghouls when there was nowhere else to turn. The elves kept fighting back building fortifications wherever they could and occassionally giving up another convert to the cause. Eventually they realized they were doomed and the dwarves came in cleaning up some of the ghouls, but by this point it was too late. My ghouls and sorcerers were scoring upwards of 19 points a turn.

Final score: 133 to 63!

Ouch!

Post your lopsided victories here and spread the humiliation further!

AI Improvements Mon, 12 December 2011 15:13
Found a case of where the AI could use some improvement.
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n584/MysteriousCodo/smallworldai2.jpg
This is the map as it was on turn 10. The white square represent my active skeletons. The black squares represent my in-decline ghouls. The blue square are the AIs in decline halflings. The red squares are empty.

I've finished up my turn 10. It's the AI's turn. The AI goes to the race selection screen. The first two up are:

Flying White Ladies with 2 victory coins [7 Race Tokens]
Wealthy Wizards with 0 victory coins [9 Race Tokens]

Now, I was a little surprised when the AI takes the White Ladies. The Ladies take the two empties and one of my skeleton zones. Total score for the turn: 7. (2 for the halfling controlled areas, 2 for the race selection, and 3 for white lady controlled areas).

Now...if the AI had chosen the wizards...He could have taken the same 3 zones, one of which would have been a magic crystal zone....and still had 2 left over to make an attempt on another territory. Scoring if the AI had chosen the wizards: 13 (Maybe 14). 7 for Wealthy, 2 for halfing zones, 3 for wizard zones (maybe 4), 1 bonus for Magic Crystal.

The final score (with the AI having taken the ladies) was 92-85 AI loss. With the wizards, this score would have been 92-91 (or 92-92). Yes, the AI would have still lost. Even with the tie, I still had way more of the board. At least a 92-92 score is a much better showing.

Also...please change the order of the AI placing redeployments and heroes. It's painful to watch the AI drag one token at a time onto the board...then finally drag the heroes on the board...then, one token at a time, empty out the hero-ized regions.

Great game though! When is Be Afraid coming to iPad? Or more than 2 players?

Strange AI Behavior Mon, 16 April 2012 04:10
I've seen the AI do some strange things before, but this one takes the cake.

The game began with a race column that had Were-White Ladies followed by Cursed Skeletons. I started with Were-White Ladies, originally placed them on the western mountain, and then redeployed so that all six tiles were on the one region (safety in numbers to ride out an attack before I went Were). The AI settled for the Cursed Skeletons, started on the southern mountain and, with a reinforcement, spread out to two adjacent regions.

On Round 2, my White Ladies went Were, so I marched them east above the lake, across the north central mountain, and to the eastern border, covering six regions (I would have covered the eastern mountain, but I didn't want to dip too close to the Skeletons). The Skeletons then grabbed one or two more regions along the south (despite the curse, the AI had great luck with the reinforcement die).

On Round 3, my White Ladies went into decline. The Skeletons did the same.

On Round 4, it was time to pick new active races. Looking at the race column, it seemed likely that the AI would pick Merchant Giants. I chose Dragon Master Humans (with six immune White Ladies on the board, I would have liked a Spirit race, but none were available). White Ladies blocked two of the four mountains, and would have blocked three had I not avoided the Skeletons. The eastern mountain was open, and the southern mountain was taken by the in-decline Skeletons, so I used the dragon to block the eastern mountain, and grabbed as much of the area below my line-o-Ladies as I could.

When it was the AI's turn to play its Merchant Giants, three of the mountains were immune and the fourth contained its own Skeletons. So it started in the northwest corner, where there was only one region surrounded by immune White Ladies. The smart thing would have been to start in the south, whether cannibalizing its own Skeletons around the mountain (Merchant would have more than offset the loss), or starting away from the mountain and taking out some of my Humans until it could grab one of the mountains. Even starting in the northeast, there at least would have been two open regions, so why the AI placed in that one blocked corner is beyond me.

Over the next several rounds, I wiped out the Skeletons and spread my Humans as far as they could go across ten regions (this took a few turns longer than expected, as the reinforcement die always came up empty for me).

Eventually I was scoring 18 points per round between my six White Ladies and my ten Humans (with two farmlands). The AI never abandoned that one region in the corner, and simply redeployed all eight Giants to the same place every turn.

After all the Skeletons were wiped out, the Merchant Giants were only scoring 3 points per round. And so the game ended 129-39, a 90-point spread.

And on a final note:

Seriously, guys, time for an update to this game! We need Retina graphics, Be Not Afraid, Tales and Legends, 3- and 4-player games, and online multiplayer. I play this game almost every day, and there hasn't been an update in ages.

Small World for iPad call for update! Mon, 15 October 2012 22:51
Sadly this forum has all but died along with the Small World app. I'm simply trying to get somebody's attention up at Days of Wonder who will actually do something about the app. You would think that a company that makes $20 million in revenue could afford even a small, temporary development team to update the Small World app.

This game is too great to go to waste! If anybody else feels the same way, please send Days of Wonder an email about it!

Anyway, here's a copy of my email to Days of Wonder and their response:

> *Problem Description*
My problem with Small World for iPad is that it's been left to rot in the App
Store graveyard of abandoned apps. It's been more than 2 years now without an update.

I played Small World frequently on my iPad until about a 9 months ago; it's now
deleted from my iPad because I got sick of destroying the weak AI on non-retina
display graphics.

I'm willing to hand over stacks of money to you guys for any of the following features:
- Online Multiplayer
- 3 to 5 player Pass n Play.
- More Expansions!!!! (Underground, etc.)
- Retina display

I understand Ticket to Ride is the cash cow, but please just put even one soul on Small
World development, if that's all the personel you can spare. PLEASE DON'T LET THIS
GAME DIE.

I love your games.

-player119303

Dear player119303

Thank you for your request.

We are aware this app needs some refresh.
Our R&D Team is pretty small, that's why we did not have time/capacity to update
this app, while focusing on our other app Ticket to Ride.

Just to make things clear: we did not abandon Small World. We plan to update it but
we cannot announce yet any availability date or features set.

Best Regards,

Gerald G.

I truly enjoyed Small World for the iPad for about a month before it started slowing down, then freezing and crashing. I can no longer complete a game without this happening. The speed it plays dropped dramatically yesterday and has continued. I managed to get through a game or two before it would start freezing, then crashing around turn 7 of any game that I started.

I have tried deleting the app and reloading, but the same problems occur. This is the only app that has this happening. Anyone out there had a similar problem and found how to fix it?

Encouraging info for the SW2 project? Tue, 26 February 2013 21:22
I know it's been posted that there's a smaller market for Android/PC devices, and that the upcoming relaunch of the Small World 2 Kickstarter will hopefully gauge just how much support is out there.

As it happens, there's a similar Kickstarter project that's about to end for another board game, Ascension Online. It's a board/card game, that has an iOS app... and the goal of the project is to develop it for Android and PC. Like the SW2 project, it has a mixture of digital and physical rewards. I can't comment on the comparative success or appeal of Ascension vs. Small World, but the Ascension Online project has a similar funding goal that's been reached.

Hopefully, this is a sign of good news to come for Small World. There is demand out there!

Dear Small World 2 players:

If you want to change your Login Name to something more fancy than "player1234567" or choose your own Avatar, it's easy.

From Small World 2, you can access directly to your profile on the Web site. Go to the Settings screen by tapping the gear icon in the main menu, then the Login Settings button and the "Edit my Profile" link:

http://s3-assets.daysofwonder.com/ks/sw2_merge_01.jpg

This will take you to the Web site on the My Account page, being logged in with your account.
On the left side, you will see links to change your Profile (go there to change your Login Name), your Avatar, your password, etc.

Have fun!

Yann

SW2: Issues with HORDES and SHRUBMEN Thu, 26 September 2013 10:32
I've got 2 problems to report, as the title suggests.

1) Hordes of, as a power is just plain difficult to use. Why? Because if you go in decline with only a Horde token on the region, you lose the region (because the power does not persist in decline.) Fine, so I just need to make sure I put the Hordes tokens in harm's way, and they will be dead long before I decline, right? Nope, and whenever you gather tokens at the beginnning of your turn it seems the Hordes tokens are glued to the board. If you try to pick it up and put down a race token in its place--oops! you've just abandoned the region!

2) Try Hordes of Shrubmen. When you do, if you move the Horde token from a Forest region during redeployment it becomes available for conquest, even if you still have a Shrubman token on it. Not cool. I have a screen capture of this if anybody wants to see it. (I wish we could directly upload pics in these forums.) The good news is, if nobody conquers that Forest region, and it is still there when you go in decline, it seems to flip the switch back to "You Shall Not Pass!" when you decline.

Anybody else having problems with Hordes of- and some other race?
Am I the only one with susceptible Shrubmen?

I'm playing on the android client. Even buddies who I've played with before and show up on my previously played with I can not invite to a game because it says they do not have sw2. I can add them as buddies but not invite them to a game. I can even see their sw2 rating.

Any ideas? This happen to anyone else?

Since the number of online players has grown significantly I noticed that the Reading Rabbit mode in Quick Play is working very well! Usually it does not take more than 30 seconds to find opponents, and very often it takes even less than that.

Can't get Android version downloaded Sat, 15 March 2014 02:10
I purchased, but when I try to download on my Nexus 10, it just goes into install mode forever and nothing ever happens.

Any ideas?

Possible Barbarian + Barricade glitch Sun, 16 March 2014 10:11
I have noticed two issues playing against Barricaded Barbarians,
which may or may not be the same AI glitch;

1) The AI will absolutely always use the 'Barricade' bonus, (even if the points for attacking beyond the limit of 4 territories would be higher. Odd to see the AI sit on 8+ unused counters am I right?)

2) In the last two turns of the game, The AI would not attack beyond its two (remaining) held territories,
even though there were sufficient troops to do so
(and in fact empty adjacent territories to attack & hold!)

Weird stuff, that may not matter, but. Y'know:
Reported.

[Beta] ffdshow audio decoder icons on Windows? Wed, 07 May 2014 18:22
Attn Windows users:

A few Windows users reported in the past that while playing the game, dozens of "ffdshow audio decoder" icons would fill the task bar. This was happening on SW 2.0.

Today's build #1072 should fix this issue. If you had the problem, I'm interested to hear confirmation that it's fixed.

Thanks in advance,

Yann
