  New Home Page + Dragonstones Pictures ! Thu, 28 November 2002 14:26
Hello everyone:

A few new things on our Web sites today:
- A new Home Page for the Days of Wonder site, that should be easier and more appealing to use.
- The on-line store now uses SSL encryption everywhere (it used to have it only during the payments steps at the end).
- Beautiful pictures of Fist of Dragonstones! Special thanks to Pnlap from JesWeb for these great shots.

  Signing-up with a Web Card but a bad e-mail address Sun, 05 January 2003 13:45
Hello everyone:

With the drastic increase of traffic on our web sites Very Happy, we have noticed an increasing number of people who sign-up with a web card but enter a bad e-mail address (either by mistake or on purpose). As a result, our servers fail to send the confirmation e-mail, and therefore their account is not activated.

Note that they are still logged in (we log people in automatically when they sign-up). So they may think that everything is fine. The problem is that they don't have their password, and worse, that their account will be terminated after 7 days.

Now the really bad news: when they try to sign-up again, they won't be able to do so because their web card number is still in the system.

If you are experiencing this problem, please contact us at customerservice@daysofwonder.com. We will reactivate your account.

We are also going to add code that will check the e-mail address formating to catch basic typos.

If you are concerned about how we could use your e-mail address, please read our Privacy Policy. You can also tell us to remove your address from our news mailings by unchecking the appropriate box in your Profile. Note that over the last 4 months, we made only one such e-mailing. Like you, we hate "spam". Twisted Evil

Let us know if you have questions or need help,

Yann

Good news, the Time Zone option is now available to Guests users in their Profile (it used to be available to Players only). This will allow you to get a correct display of time in all online games, scheduling pages, etc.

Make sure you go to "My Account", then "Profile" to set up this new parameter.

Best,

New weblogs Thu, 12 June 2003 07:33
New weblogs have been created on www.gangoffour.com, www.queens-necklace.com et www.mysteryoftheabbey.com. More flexible than the DB system used for new character suggestions in Dragonstones, they will be used as repositories of tips & tactics, suggestions for new characters, etc...

Perharps more importantly, they also give you the possibility to comment on existing suggestions.

However, in order to minimize duplicates and keep some semblance of order (the Fist of Dragonstones DB has been so successful it is becoming somewhat difficult to browse through in one sequence Laughing), the weblogs are moderator-supervised. This means that new articles will only appear once approved by the moderator. This might take a couple of days.

We hope you will like them, and look forward to your many ideas and suggestions.

The entire team at Days of Wonder

Online Play Problem Fri, 30 July 2004 13:42
Has anyone else had problems with accessing the lobby for online play? I played a game of Queen's Necklace and when it ended I was a little slow to return to the lobby. It started loading a new game I think but then it just froze. I had to go to End Task and shut the internet down. But now when I try to return it begins to load and freezes just before reaching the lobby. I can see the two windows but nothing else appears. Can anyone help me? Crying or Very Sad

On another note - have DoW considered any little bonuses for customers that purchase most or all or their titles? Surprised

Valued Customer Bonus Mon, 06 September 2004 05:49
This occured to me some time ago but I thought it was time I posted it. I was wondering if DoW were considering a little bonus for valued customers that have purchased a large number of your titles? I ask this because DoW have a good handle on what customer service and satisfaction are all about and this idea would seem to fit your ethos.

For example I own every game you guys (and girls) have published with the exception of 'Fist of Dragonstones' and 'Terra'. A quick mental calculation reveals that I have spent $475 (Australian) on products from DoW.

I don't expect anything major as a bonus but something like extended Online play or a free copy of the proposed new cards for Ticket to Ride would be a good idea.

Purchase of course can be verified by registering Web Cards.

Just a thought and I'm sure others out there have similar purchases to my own from DoW. Cool

Ah yes, Shadows over Camelot. The game that was formerly "Knights of the Round Table" and was picked up by Days of Wonder to now be published in the Spring of 2005: Will we have a mapboard of Camelot to explore? The premise seems very interesting... has the game undergone any special revisions from Days of Wonder?

As always, the excitement and hype builds for anything coming from your great company! Spring can't come soon enough...and we live in Florida! Cool

I have seen that there is reference to having both Pirate's Cove and Memoir 44 online. From the postings, would I be correct in my understanding that Pirate's Cove is more likely to be the next one released? And I didn't see any plans for bringing any of the other games online, right?

    Dear players:

The US and European offices of Days of Wonder will be closed until January 10th.

Therefore, we will not be able to monitor the forums and answer to questions. Fortunately, there are many experienced players around here, and we know that they will help beginners, just as they usually do.

We thank you for your understanding, and look forward to see you all again online. We shall be well rested after the exciting (and often crazy) 2004 year, and ready to bring you all kind of new surprises for 2005. Smile

So we wish you all a Happy New Year 2005!

    See you soon!

How to eliminate some of the luck in the game Sun, 27 February 2005 13:08
We have been playing the game for some time now with some friends and in every game we end up arguing about the same thing: the luck when casting the dies.
We propose a method of eliminating al least a part of the luck with the dies in this game. The idea is based on accumulating luck points when you get a hit.
So, the probability when attacking an infantry unit to get a hit is 1/2 (if on the die there is a soldier or a grenade). If the player gets a hit he accumulates 2 luck points.
The same thing goes for getting a hit on the tanks (probability 1/3), and on the artillery (probability 1/6), the only thing that a hit on the tanks is worth 3 luck points and a hit on the artillery is worth 6 luck points.
At the end of the game you see what the difference of luck points is between the players. Every 9 luck points counts as a medal for the unlucky player.
So you can eliminate most of the luck in this game, and the player with better strategy and tactics will win by merit.
We thank you for your attention and waiting for your comments.

I am one of the 5% colourblind, albeit mildly, and it would be much easier to make flushes if we could, say, change the green to a more bluish colour.

Anyone out there wanna give the code a tweak? Maybe even a more 'colour handicap accessible' button.

I would just like to say the Days of Wonder team has always displayed a level of professionalism and courtesy I haven't seen with other online gaming companies. My emails with complaints and concerns have all been handled very quickly and without any grief.

Even though I'm somewhat disappointed in the upcoming changes
to the way online subscriptions are being handled, I'm sure they have their reasons for doing so. I hope to see many more of their board games converted to the online gaming experience they provide.

Thanks for the great support and I hope this will always continue.

Under the blog of "Some Details on Upcoming Memoir '44 Expansions" I guess we got to hear a little bit of what is coming on that front. (no pun intended...) But alas, I do not own Memoir 44!

So I was just wondering when and what can we expect to see with the Mystery of the Abbey expansion and the Pirate's Cove expansion? I heard these are to be card expansions, and that is a really neat idea. I know I'm certainly willing to pay a fee to obtain them too!

I have soooo much more to ask... but I will check down and try not to be TOO nosy. Smile

Will "Ticket to Ride Europe" and "Shadows over Camelot" be published with dutch rules? I presume that if they will be done, they will be published by Hodin, as they also did Mystery of the Abbey, Pirates Cove and the original Ticket to Ride, but I can't find any information (or Hodin's website for that matter).

I received my copy of T2R Europe yesterday. I open all new games with eagerness, not being able to wait to crack open the plastic bags, punch out bits, etc.
I was pleasantly surprised with my opening of this game for the following reasons...
    1) Full colour catalogue. Wow, this is a great addition, and much appreciated.
    2) Full size ( or almost full size!) cards...with white borders!! Great idea.
    3) The plastic bags that hold the train pieces are resealable zip lock types. I have plenty of them around the house anyway for other game companies that aren't quite as thoughtful ; )
but it was nice to see them included.

    Awesome!

    Royal Oak Boardgamers Review - 7.30.05 Sun, 31 July 2005 05:06
A record 42 people turned out for the July ROBA event, despite the beautiful weather in southeastern Michigan! All in all, I think a great time was had by everyone, and we're already looking forward to our August event!

Special thanks to the sponsors who donated door prizes for this month: Wizards of the Coast (a copy of Betryal at House on the Hill), Out of the Box Publishing (a copy of Tutankhamen); RIW Hobbies in Livonia (a copy of RoboRally); Rider's Hobby Shop in Madison Heights (a $20 gift certificate); and Fair Play Games (a $10 gift certificate).

Special thanks also to Grod (we know him as Gord), who put together an amazing tutorial on Puerto Rico and taught it to 12 people (the presentation can be viewed here - http://www.bggfiles.com/viewfile.php3?fileid=11973). After the teaching session, three 5-player games of PR were played (some faster than others Smile

As far as I know, here are the games that were played at the July ROBA event:

    Puerto Rico
    Ticket To Ride: Europe
    Balloon Cup
    Shadows Over Camelot
    Through the Desert
    Louis XIV
    Twilight Imperium: Third Edition
    Cosmic Encounter
    Axis & Allies
    RoboRally
    Fearsome Floors
    St. Petersburg
    For Sale
    Attika
    Mall World
    Bang!
    Munchkin
    Memoir '44
    Lost Cities
    Samurai

Our next event is scheduled for Saturday, August 27, from 1-9 p.m. More details can be found by visiting our Yahoo Group at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/ROBA/.

If you were there, talk about it here. Otherwise, we hope to see you all in August!

Royal Oak (MI) Boardgamers - Next Event Sat., Aug. 27th Sun, 21 August 2005 02:26
The next event for the Royal Oak (MI) Boardgamers Association is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th from 1-9 p.m. As always at ROBA events, there will be a lot going on, and you will want to make sure you don't miss this event!

Here's some of what we've got cookin' for Saturday:

ROBA de -- We will begin a 6-race Formula De season, first with a tutorial race at 3:30 p.m., followed by the first race of the season at 6 p.m.

Door prizes -- We've got four high-quality door prizes to give away, from games to gift certificates. Drawing will be held at 5 p.m. and you must be present to win!

Lots of gamers! -- In July, a ROBA-record 42 gamers were there, and since our formation in March, we've seen 70 different people walk through the door. So, whether you come with friends or by yourself, there will be a lot of gamers to share a table with!

Lots of games! -- Our game table is always staked high with all sorts of titles, and ROBA events provide a friendly atmosphere to play your favorite game or learn a new one.

If you have never been to a ROBA event, what are you waiting for? We guarantee that you will not be disappointed, and in fact, we'll guarantee you will want to come back and bring your friends. Listen to this first-time attender from July:

"The game variety is good. The crowd is excellent and varied (from skilled players to newbies). I have not had the chance to attend prior to this last one, but after attending I wish I had been able to. Worth the trip" -- Ken S., Rochester, MI

ROBA meets the last Saturday of every month at St. John's United Methodist Church, located at 3605 Rochester Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073. For directions, visit: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?address=3506+Rochester+ Rd&city=Royal%20Oak&state=MI&zipcode=48073&c ountry=US&cid=lfmaplink.
