Very close. Powerful initial assault by Germans on their right flank caught Russians napping. Very close finish. |
Pulled back and counter attacked astutely. Excellent cards a big help! |

Despite a strong attack by the German right , consolidated Russian tanks in the centre and losses
crossing the frozen river prevented the Germans from relieving Von Paulus. |
This scenario is very hard for russian player since there are no artillery. German player can dominate the battlefield as he pleases since he has every advantage. |
23rd Panzer halted on the Myshkova. In fact, a Russian tank unit ended the game on the hills to the South of the river. 6th Panzer had a bridghead briefly, but were repulsed by tanks from the 13th tank and 4th Mechanised Corps. 17th Panzer had more luck, and infantry assaulted to reach the Stalingrad pocket and activate Operation Thunderclap. Russians had two weak units on the final turn, one of which fell to an infantry attack, thus giving the Germans the game.
The main interest for the Russians is in getting some units into the central sector from the wings whilst not simply sacrificing the 'forlorn hope' of the 2nd Guards Army.
It's more of a challenge to the Germans to get an established bridghead over the Myshkova than it looks. |
