Historical Background:
The Battle for the extreme Eastern end of Omaha beach was marked by many heroic actions. Not least those by Lt Jimmie Monteith who on this day would win a posthumous Medal of Honor. Due to navigational errors and strong tides many units missed their intended landing sites or arrived later than scheduled. Company L of the 16th Infantry regiment, of which Lt Monteith belonged landed below Widerstandsnest (resistance nest) 60. Exiting their craft they came under fire and incurred many casualties but eventually they reached the base of a sheer cliff face which at least gave cover against small arms fire. After reorganizing, the hotch potch of mixed units got organized and got on with their great endeavor.

Briefing:
Allies go first

Conditions of Victory:
5 medals each for victory

Special Rules:
Lt Monteith's starting position is marked with the star, though this unit was 'normal' infantry like those around it, I have given it 'elite' status to demonstrate the courage and leadership of its soon to be Medal of Honor winner. There is no suitable badge to mark this unit ( didn't want to give them a Ranger badge )

The German unit near Cabourg is Elite and represents 352nd Infantry division, which was far superior to the majority of German troops manning the shore defenses.

The 3 Hill hexes next to the Battle star are sheer cliffs and are impassible for both sides.

Minefields attack Allies only.
