[Angaur] Taking the Town of Saipan - September 19, 1944 - September 20, 1944

Historical Background:
Soon after taking the phosphate plant the 321st RCT pushed west from all the way across the island until they came up against the defenses of Beach Green which they encircled. The town of Saipan was easily taken. On F+2 they continued their push into the defenses on Beach Green from the rear and were forced to reduce the fortifications one by one. After continued hard fighting the other elements of the 321st RCT reached the shoreline of the southwest of the island. There were now only two remaining pockets of Japanese resistance on the island.
