Historical Background:
On September 24th, 1943, the Soviet forces attempted to force a crossing of the Dnieper River. To facilitate this attack they dropped paratroopers behind the German lines. Their orders were to help secure bridgeheads across the river. German counterattacks eliminated the paratroopers and repulsed the Soviet crossing.
Briefing:
Allies: 5 cards. You move first. Your first turn will be preceded by a paradrop of a possible 4 units.
Axis: 5 cards.
Conditions of Victory:
9 medals.
The 3 city hexes marked with an 'A' (Kanev) are a temporary medal objective worth 1 medal for both sides. If ANY unit from either side occupies any 1 of the 3 hexes they earn the 1 medal.
Moshny is a temporary medal objective worth 1 medal for both sides.
Korsun is a temporary medal objective worth 1 medal for the Allies.
Therefore the Axis start with 2 medals.
Special Rules:
The Dnieper is not fordable.
Special force infantry for both sides as marked. Can move 2 and battle.
Engineers for both sides as marked. Ignore dice reductions in close assault.
German Rosette armor are 4 figures AND move only 2 hexes.
Finnish ski troop unit represents heavy motorized infantry unit. It follows Finnish ski troop rules. It is 4 figures.
The 4 paratrooper units that may land safely will be U.S. units. They will fight the Germans just like the Russians. They are regular infantry.
