Historical Background:
Lympne airfield fell in the early hours of September 22, 1940. It was the first airfield taken by German forces on British soil. Soon, the gliders of the 22nd Airlanding Division arrived at the airfield and the British defenders were decisively routed. In the following hours, Lehrgeschwader 2 rebased to Lympne so it could fly more sorties in Kent.

British High Command was concerned of these developments, but the main priority was to deny the usage of a port to German forces. Folkestone soon fell to the Germans, so it has been decided that at least RAF Lympne to be retaken or its facilities to be destroyed.

No. 3. Commando along with a detachment from the 1st Armored was sent against the airfield in the late hours of September 23. The Germans rushed Panzers across the Royal Military Canal to save the airfield. The commandos were beaten back and Bomber Command soon sent Wellingtons to erase the airfield from military maps.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
