Historical Background:
On the 05th of July 1943, the Kursk salient was attacked by a huge German armored offensive. It was the beginning of operation Citadel, a pincer movement made by two armored armies : the 9.Armee under the command of Generaloberst Model in the north and the 4.Armee of Generalfeldmarschall Manstein in the south. After the preliminary fire of the artillery, several infantry divisions of the 9.Armee, with the support of "Tiger" tanks of the 505.sPz Abt and "Ferdinand" heavy tank destroyers of the 656.sPzjg Rgt, attacked the Soviet front line. Despite a Soviet fierce resistance, German troops succeeded to capture the first defense line. But due to an important loss of heavy tanks (generally because of minefields) Model had to engage his reserve armored divisions to support the infantry fighting on the second defense line in front of Ponyri and Olkhovatka heights. At that time, German troops were stopped by several Soviet counterattacks ordered by General Rokossovski.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
