Historical Background:
Early in June 1943 the Germans obtained information that a partisan staff planning attacks against the rail line in the Borisov sector had its headquarters at Daliki. They sent in a reinforced battalion consisting of four companies, anti-tank guns and a motorized supply column. The German commander, Major Beer, ordered his troops in a feint move to mobilize to attack in the Berezina Valley, 10 kilometers east of where he was to actually attack. The partisans were duped by these false orders and were thus surprised by the sudden German attack.
The partisans put up heavy risistance in Podrussy, Pospach and Daliki but were eventually driven from the towns, only to be cut down by German fire as they retreated to Ivan Bor. A group of 20 partisan comanders retreated into the forests and swamps south of Liski but were met by a flanking company of the German attack. Instead of surrendering they fired in the open and were all cut down by the return fire. A few partisans escaped, but it was believed most of the commanders were eliminated.
