Historical Background:
After the landing of the 6th US Army in Lingayen Gulf, the Japanese 2nd armoured division "Geki", the only one in Luzon, was divided in three battle groups to support the infantry divisions engaged in the defense of the island. On the 12th of January, General Nishiyama, commander of the 23rd infantry division, ordered the battle group Shigemi to attack towards Manaoag to stop the advance of the 40th US Infantry Division. During the night 16th to 17th of January, Japanese tanks attacks the positions of 103rd US Inf Rgt along the Manaoag road.
