As the Russian Army made its first steps into Germany, the 88th Guards division had captured the town of Goldap to form a salient into the German lines. General Hossbach ordered a pinch off, and sent the Fuhrer Grenadier Brigade and the 50th Infantry Division into an enveloping attack. Desperate for infantry the 4th Army sent its attached engineers in a pinning attack of the fortified town. The battalion had already taken loses at mount Goldap, but managed to push the Russian out of the hills to the south of the town. While the Germans were regrouping for the assault on Goldap itself, Russian infantry manning a crossroad strong point poured flanking fire into the advancing 50th Infantry.
The engineers were quickly ordered to advance but were stopped by mines and heavy fire. The Germans engineers called in Air strikes and artillery barrages on the Russian positions, and then resumed their attack at noon. In an attack that was likened more to World War I tactics, German Assault guns lead the attack with the Engineers rushing from behind to clear the enemy strong point in hand to hand fighting. But as they tried to expand their hold, Russian T-34s and infantry counter attacked. The engineers drove off this attack and many others through the day to allow 50th Infantry to advance and cut of Goldap, forcing the Russians out.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
German Player: 4 command cards
You move first
Russian player: 5 command cards
Conditions of Victory:
A German unit that captures a Goldap town hex counts as one Victory Medal. Place an Objective Medal on each of these town hexes. As long as the unit remains on the town hex, it continues to count as a victory medal. If the unit moves off or is eliminated, it no longer counts.
All German infantry are Elite engineers. However due to their worn out state treat them only as Elite infantry for rule purposes, not engineers. They may move 2 and still battle.
All Russian Infantry are Elite Russian Guards. They may move 2 and still battle.
All minefields are considered Russian controlled for rule purposes.
