Historical Background:
Normandy - 11th July 1944.
After one month against British troops in the Tilly-sur-Seulles area, the Panzer Lehr Division, under the command of Gal Bayerlein, is transferred in American sector, north of Saint-Lô. Just arrived, the division must counter-attack in order to seize the heights who overlooks the Vire-Taute Canal and prevent the Allies to use the bridges for reinforcement. This operation was too ambitious and collided with the offensive of the XIXth US Corps supported by the tanks of the 3rd Armored Division. The PanzerGrenadier Regiment.901 made a breakthrough at "Le Dézert", but the PanzerGrenadier Regiment.902 stayed on its baseline near Pont-Hébert and didn't succeed to advance towards St Jean de Daye. The intervention of US fighter-bombers, "Jabos" for the Germans, stopped definitively this counter-attack.
