Historical Background:
While Warren Force was in charge of taking Japanese positions east of Buna, Urbana Force, in the west side, was ordered to capture Buna Village and Buna Mission. A general attack was launched on the 5th of December 1942 but the US advance was particularly difficult due to the hard Japanese defense and Buna Village was captured by 127th US Infantry Regiment only on the 14th of December. US troops of General Eichelberger had to reduce Japanese bunkers in "le Triangle" sector then cross "Government Gardens", a sort of paddy-field, before to attack Buna Mission. The seaside was reached by US troops only on the 30th of December between Buna Mission and Giropa Point, Buna Mission was captured at last on the 02nd of January 1943 by US infantry reinforced by tanks coming from Giropa Point.
