Historical Background:
On June 11, 1944, as the men of the 4th US Infantry Division, or ?Ivy? Division, commanded by General Roosevelt were advancing toward Cherbourg, they were unexpectedly stopped at Montebourg by Kampfgruppe Keil, a hodgepodge of the 919th German Infantry Regiment, the Sturm Battalion AOK 7, the 795th Ost Bat and the Panzer Abteilung 100. While weakened because of previous battles, Kampfgruppe Keil managed to stop the advance of the "Ivy" Division for one week. Fierce battles took place around Montebourg, but when the German front collapsed in the west (Barneville), Kampfgruppe Keil decided to leave the area. German forces fell back to the "Festung" (fortress) Cherbourg and prepared new defenses.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
