To carry out the "Sickle-Cut" plan that would split the Allied forces in half, the Panzers of Gruppe Von Kleist had to cross the Ardennes. The key of the operation was the speed of the assault: for the Panzers, the objective was to reach the Meuse River on May 15th. The German general staff planned an airborne operation to help meet their timetable. Paratroopers were dropped in the massif of the Ardennes to take and hold the main crossroads so that Panzer divisions could cross the Ardennes without being thwarted by defensive blocks from the Chasseurs Ardennais. Dropped from Fieseler "Storch" airplanes (one pilot and two passengers!), the German soldiers managed to capture and hold the crossroads near the towns of Nives and Witry until the Panzers arrived, in spite of Belgian and French counter-attacks. The Meuse was crossed in Sedan on May 13th, two days ahead of schedule.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
Axis player [Germany]
Take 5 Command Cards.
Allied player [Belgium & France]
Take 5 Command Cards.
You move first.
Conditions of Victory:
Léglise, Nives and Witry are Temporary Medal Objectives for the Allied forces.
The hex "To Neufchâteau" on the Allied player's baseline is an Exit hex for the Axis armored units.
Blitz rules are in effect (Actions 15 - Blitz Rules).
The Allied armor units with only one figure are Belgian T-13 or T-15 tanks, which fought with the Chasseurs Ardennais (Troops 25 - Depleted units). If the three units are destroyed, the Axis player get one Medal.
The Allied units with a badge are French units that came into Belgium as per the Dyle plan. They fight as normal units.
As soon as 3 Allied units are eliminated, the Axis player may call in armor reinforcements (Actions 22 - Armor Breakthrough). An armor unit may arrive on the hex "To Hollange" and another one on the hex "To Bodange". These units represent the first armor units that cross the Ardennes.
Air Rules are optional: If used, the Axis player can call in Air Strikes (Actions 3 - Air Strikes & Blitz). The Air Sortie cards are set aside and not used in this mission. The Air Power card cannot be used by the Allied player : if he draws it, he must discard it and draw another card instead.
