Historical Background:
The strong Soviet 139th Division has been advancing well to the north of Lake Ladoga, and is preparing an attack on the settlement of Tolvajärvi which controls a crossroads giving access to the west and south. Before the Soviet attack can be launched a newly appointed Finnish commander Col Paavo Talvela launches an attack of his own. One unit is still inexperienced is not able to press the attack on the left as has been planned.
In the historical battle the Finnish attack on the left was broken up, and that to the right initially stalled half way along Kotisaari Island. There had been some success in the centre and it was here that Talvela committed his reserves capturing the Tourist Hotel and significant amounts of Russian equipment before withdrawing to Tolvajärvi. This was one of the first successful Finnish actions of the 1939-40 Russo-Finnish war.
Weather is poor and hours of daylight short so air cover even if available is of limited use.
