Historical Background:
70,000 U.S. Marines landed against 22,000 Japanese soldiers. The Japanese knew they would die, but they were ordered to take as many marines with them as they could. It took four days before the marines could raise the flag at Mt Suribachi, and it would take another month before the island would be won. By March 3rd, 16,000 of the defenders were still alive. The Americans had taken 16,000 casualities with 3,000 dead.

Briefing:
The allies take 10 command cards and move first.

The Japanese take 8 command cards.

If air rules are used, the allied player is give an air sortie card after drawing his ten cards. The allied player then takes two turns, with the first one being the air sortie card.

Conditions of Victory:
Allies: Take 11 medals with one of those being Mt Suribachi. Temporary medal hexes are also at the Hospital, and the radio station. As long as these are occupied, they count as medals for the army that occupies them. Allies can also get one medal for each unit that exits the map at the marked exit points.

Japanese: Take 13 medals with one of them being Mt Suribachi. The Hospital and the radio station are also temporary medal hexes. They count as a medal for who ever holds them.

Special Rules:
All Japanese command rules are in effect. See page 7 of the Pacific Theater rulebook or Nations card 3.
Japanese armor has two figures instead of three because of thin armor.
Marines command rules are in effect. See page 7 of the Pacific Theater rulebook or Nations card 4.
All U.S. Infantry units are Marines, the ones with the Marine badges are special forces. See Troops card #2.
Special Weapons Assets are in effect, for rules see campaign book 1 or SWA cards 1-3.
Air Rules are in effect, for rules consult air pack book or use my air rules from my user page (50th).
