Historical Background:
As the Japanese continue to expand through the Dutch colonies, Java became their next target. The Japanese landed in 3 groups on the north coast. One landing was to the west of Java, east of Kragen. Its objective was to secure the town of Soerabaja, and the Tjepoe oil field. The Japanese landing went somewhat unopposed, but as they move inland the KNIL (Netherlands East Indies Army) begin launch a few counter attacks. On the night of the 4th of March, a Dutch reconnaissance unit found the outskirts Baoerena unoccupied, and took up defensive positions in the city?s western perimeter. Soon a tank lead Japanese reconnaissance unit was heading their way. The Dutch force ambushed the Japanese tanks disabling a few of them, but as the Japanese infantry fanned out behind them is was only going to be a matter of time before the Japanese could take advantage of their superior numbers.
