Juno beach was the sector assigned to the Canadian 3rd Division for operation Overlord. 8th Brigade on the left and 7th Brigade on the right with the 9th Brigade in reserve.
Because of the offshore reef the Canadian forces landed later than their flanking British counterparts on Gold & Sword beaches. At 0749 hours the Royal Winnipeg Rifles touched down into history.
The 3rd Division lost 946 casualties and had the rare distinction of having units meet their D-Day objectives.
Allies - 9 cards, Allies move first
Axis - 7 cards
Conditions of Victory:
Medal marked towns are all Temporary Majority Medal Objectives for the Allies.
Allied Special Forces - These are the 48 Royal Marine Commando who lost significant numbers when their landing craft struck mines. They are represented by 3 figures but are treated as standard special forces for movement & combat.
Axis Snipers - See the "Eastern Front" rules for the explanation of Snipers.
AVRE Crabs - The 2 marked armoured units are special engineer vehicles designed to clear mines. They automatically remove mines upon entering a mine hex. They take no damage from the mines but must stop and may not move further that turn.
Seawall - Acts like sandbags but is a permanent defensive emplacement.
Depleted Units - The units indicated were forced fighters from the 441st Ost Battalion. These units start with just 3 figures and may not be replenished above that. These units do count as medals when eliminated.
Air Rules are not in effect. The Air Sortie cards are set aside and are not used in this mission.
In addition to the 2 copies of Memoir'44 this scenario requires 2 sets of Minefields, 1 Axis Sniper badges and 2 British Engineer badges.
Please note that this scenario was not approved by Richard Borg or Days of Wonder, so you have to check yourself about playability, potential gaming issues, etc.
