Historical Background:
On the night of September 12th 1942, the Japanese launched an attack on the U.S. troops defending the airfield on Guadalcanal. The Raider Paratroop battalion had just arrived on Edson's ridge just as the attack commenced. The Americans are forced to fall back to a new line. September 13th brings a new massive assault by two Japanese battalions. The attack makes headway-flooding the American right flank. The American line folds back on itself as the Japanese now push around the left flank and try to break the American line. Some Japanese units reach the airfield. Finally heavy artillery fire breaks up the Japanese attack causing heavy casualties. They break contact and retreat westward after losing heavily in men and equipment.
