Historical Background:
After the battle of Royan on the French Atlantic coast, the 2nd French Armored Division made for Germany for the last rush : Berchtesgaden. From the 3rd of May, Combat Command Guillebon attacked. For the German army, it was the last battle. Armored columns of the French Division advanced quickly on Bavarian roads, by the side of the 3rd US Infantry Division, delayed only by some ambushes, entered in Bad Reichenhall and carried out their last combats in Hallein and Lofer, on both sides of Berchtesgaden. On the evening of the 04th of May, Captain Touyeras from the RMT (Régiment de Marche du Tchad) reached the ultimate objective : the Obersalzberg and entered in the ruined Berghof, the house of Hitler. For General Leclerc and the 2nd French Armored Division, it was the Pinnacle of a legendary ride begun four years before in Kufra.
