Historical Background:
Americans had just landed in North Africa in November 1942. Rommel was on the retreat after the Battle of El Alamein and the loss of Tripoli in January 1943. Still, he saw a soft spot in the American lines at Kasserine Pass and led an offensive against green troops. American losses were heavy. Lessons learned made the American army better, while German commanders would underestimate the Americans in future.
