Contexte historique :
From 9-11th December the German tried to reduce the numerous Soviet bridgeheads over the Chir River. The bridgehead at Nizhnyaya Kalinovka proved too well entrenched to retake. Worse yet, on the evening of the 11th, the German infantry forces screening the river reported a breakout from Nizhnyaya Kalinovka, and strong forces crossing the Chir near the village of Lisinsky. The 11th Panzer Division made a forced march that night and attacked the Lisinsky bridgehead at dawn. By that afternoon it was destroyed. The Germans then turned their attack towards Nizhnyaya Kalinovka. The advance was going well until a Soviet counter-attack broke through the German right flank and encircled part of the armour regiment. The crisis was staved off, but the Germans were forced to cancel their attack. The dangerous bridgehead remained.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.

Briefing :
Axis player: German: Generalmajor Hermann Balck: Take 6 command cards.
You move first.

Allied Player: Russian: Colonel-General Prokofii Logvinovich Romanenko: Take 4 command cards.

Conditions de victoire :
5 medals

An Axis unit that captures the town of Nizhnyaya Kalinovka, or Soviet units that captures the towns of Lisinsky, Savinsky, or Ostrovsky, count as one Victory Medal for their side for each town captured. Place Objective Medals on these hexes. As long as the unit remains on the Town hex, it continues to count toward victory. If the unit moves off or is eliminated, it no longer counts.

Règles spéciales :
Russian Command rules are in effect (see p.3).

The Allied special forces tank units are large formations, and have 4 figures. Place a Special Forces badge in the same hex as these units to distinguish them from the other units.

Two of the Axis Special Forces Infantry units are Mechanised infantry units. Place a Special Forces Badge in the same hex as these units to distinguish them from the other units. They may move 1 or 2 hexes and battle. The other Axis Special Forces Infantry, and the allied Special Forces Infantry unit, are engineer units. Place Special Forces badges in the same hex as these units to distinguish them from the other units. Read M44 p.6 about Engineers.

The Chir River is frozen. Refer to p.3 (EF) about frozen rivers.

Russian Villages have the same effect as a Town & Village hex (M44 p.14).

Winter Forest have the same effect as a Forest hex (M44 p.13).

You need the Eastern Front expansion to play this scenario. If you want to use the German engineer badge, you will also need the Terrain Pack expansion. Otherwise the Terrain Pack expansion is not needed.
