BGA Tournament

Registration and Eligibility

Multiple tournaments will be held across different time slots, each linked to a specific time zone:

– Central European Time (CET)

– China Standard Time (CST)

– Eastern Standard Time (EST)

– Pacific Standard Time (PST)

The tournament is open only to adults, and each event can host up to 512 players, with a minimum of 33 players required to start a tournament.

Any adult with a Board Game Arena account with at least 100 ELO and 50 karma points at registration can participate, choosing only one tournament time slot. Duplicate entries may result in disqualification from the semi-finals and eligibility for prizes.

This hybrid tournament includes an in-person final in Paris (France). Each participant must be able to:

– Be available for the final in Paris in May (exact date to be provided)

– Have the ability to travel to Paris (travel costs covered by the tournament organizers, see Prizes section)

– Possess valid travel documents (passport, visa, etc.) at the time of the final in Paris (May)

If a BGA finalist cannot meet these requirements, the next ranked player (based on the semi-final standings) will be invited as a replacement.

For any questions, participants may contact Rwain directly via BGA messaging.

 BGA Tournament Format

Games will be played in turn-based mode, featuring:

Qualifying Phase: Single-elimination (1v1) – players are eliminated after a loss.

Semi-Finals: Swiss rounds (1v1) – each player plays an equal number of matches, facing opponents with similar provisional rankings. A final ranking is established based on results.

Players will be notified for each turn and have a 30-hour time reserve to play each move. This reserve decreases only during official tournament hours (e.g., from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the reserve remains stable after 10 p.m.). If a player’s time reserve is fully depleted, their opponent may expel them, resulting in an automatic loss.

 Tournament Schedule

Qualifying Phase (December 1, 2024 – January 15, 2025)

Each match is a single-elimination, turn-based game over five days. If no winner emerges by the end of the period, the player with the most time left is declared the winner.

– Start of qualifying tournaments: 12/01/2024

– End of qualifying phase: 01/15/2025

Top players from each qualifying tournament will advance to the semi-finals. The number of players advancing depends on the number of participants:

– 257-512 players: 8 qualifiers

– 129-256 players: 4 qualifiers

– 65-128 players: 2 qualifiers

– 33-64 players: 1 qualifier

– Under 32 players: tournament is not held

Semi-Finals (January 25, 2025 – March 1, 2025)

Top players from each qualifying tournament advance to the semi-finals, competing in multiple Swiss rounds, 1v1, with each match lasting five days. If no winner is decided, the player with the most time remaining is declared the victor.

At the end of each match, a provisional ranking is established. Subsequent matchups are based on rankings: 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th, and so on. A final ranking will determine the top 8 players who will compete in Paris in May 2025.

– Semi-finals begin: 01/25/2025

– Semi-finals end: 03/01/2025

A final ranking will be used to select the 8 finalists for the in-person finale in Paris.

 Tie-Breaking

In the event of a tie during a match, the player with the highest number of Destination Ticket cards completed is the winner. If there’s still a tie, the player with the longest continuous path is the the winner. For ties in final rankings after all semi-final matches, the combined scores of each player’s opponents will be used as a tie-breaker. If a tie persists, the combined ELO scores of the opponents will decide the outcome.

 Prizes

Each qualifying tournament winner will receive a Ticket to Ride product bundle.

After the semi-finals, the top 8 players will be invited to Paris for the grand finale in May 2025 (exact date to follow). Days of Wonder will cover travel and accommodation for each finalist. Many surprises await!
